No. 498 73R7509 WMS-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The University of Texas Health Science Center at San 1-2 Antonio dental school has been designated the nation's best by U.S. 1-3 News and World Report in the publication's annual ranking of 1-4 America's best graduate schools; and 1-5 WHEREAS, Serving expanding educational needs in the vital 1-6 area of dentistry for more than two decades, the school currently 1-7 boasts an enrollment of 376 students; and 1-8 WHEREAS, This outstanding institution also ranks among the 1-9 top five dental schools in the nation in research funding, with 1-10 more than $4 million a year in grants and other support; and 1-11 WHEREAS, The school was deservedly awarded the status of 1-12 preeminence in its field on the basis of its reputation for 1-13 scholarship, curriculum, and the quality of faculty and graduate 1-14 students; and 1-15 WHEREAS, As further evidence of the national regard for this 1-16 exemplary seat of higher learning, Dr. John P. Howe III, president 1-17 of The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, 1-18 has been chosen to head a prestigious National Academy of Sciences 1-19 committee whose task will be to put forth recommendations about 1-20 dentistry and dental education for the next quarter century; and 1-21 WHEREAS, The faculty, staff, and students of the dental 1-22 school exemplify the level of excellence to which all such 1-23 institutions aspire, and it is indeed appropriate that they be 1-24 given special legislative recognition; now, therefore, be it 2-1 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas 2-2 Legislature hereby congratulate The University of Texas Health 2-3 Science Center at San Antonio dental school on being named the best 2-4 dental school in the nation by U.S. News and World Report; and, be 2-5 it further 2-6 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-7 prepared for Dr. John P. Howe III, president of The University of 2-8 Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, and dental school dean 2-9 Dr. Kenneth Kalkwarf as an expression of high regard by the Texas 2-10 House of Representatives.
