H.R. No. 512 R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The Silsbee High School Lady Tigers basketball team, 1-2 under the exceptional direction of head coach Kim Albers, achieved 1-3 outstanding success during the 1992-1993 season, compiling a record 1-4 of 29 wins against only six defeats; and 1-5 WHEREAS, Having earned a well-deserved place in the 1-6 University Interscholastic League (UIL) Class 4A girls basketball 1-7 postseason playoffs by virtue of their District 23-4A championship, 1-8 the Silsbee girls took the floor against Bridge City High School 1-9 and won handily, 68-52; and 1-10 WHEREAS, The Lady Tigers next faced Dickinson High School, 1-11 overcoming their opponent in a high-scoring contest, 76-68, and 1-12 continuing their march through the playoffs; and 1-13 WHEREAS, This young but focused and determined Silsbee squad 1-14 put on a textbook example of basketball excellence in the next 1-15 game, cruising past Tomball High School, 74-50, to claim a spot in 1-16 the regional finals; and 1-17 WHEREAS, A stern test awaited the Lady Tigers in their next 1-18 contest, but this outstanding group of athletes rose to the 1-19 occasion, triumphing 61-59 over Cleveland High School and earning a 1-20 coveted berth at the UIL Class 4A state championship tournament in 1-21 Austin; and 1-22 WHEREAS, Although its season ended with a defeat to eventual 1-23 Class 4A champion Westlake, this exceptional Silsbee squad gave a 1-24 remarkable effort and emerged as Silsbee's first girls' basketball 2-1 team to compete in the state tournament; and 2-2 WHEREAS, The Lady Tigers featured superior athletic ability, 2-3 outstanding determination, and tremendous pride on the part of 2-4 every player, including Tamika Stimpson, LaQuan Stallworth, Rebecca 2-5 Scott, Jessica Barnes, Erica Dabney, LaShundra Watkins, Ashlea 2-6 Simpkins, Roshunda Fobbs, Christy Denmon, Sally Powell, Amy 2-7 Musgrove, and Linda Powell; and 2-8 WHEREAS, Although each squad member made significant 2-9 contributions to the team's success, several Lady Tigers also 2-10 garnered well-deserved individual honors, with Tamika Stimpson and 2-11 Rebecca Scott earning spots on the all-district first team, Erica 2-12 Dabney and Jessica Barnes being tabbed as members of the 2-13 all-district second team, Roshunda Fobbs receiving honorable 2-14 mention, and LaQuan Stallworth being designated District 23-4A 2-15 Co-Most Valuable Player; and 2-16 WHEREAS, Kim Albers, whose nine years at Silsbee include the 2-17 last three years as girls' basketball head coach, provided 2-18 inspirational leadership to her charges, and for her dedicated 2-19 efforts earned District 23-4A Co-Coach of the Year honors; she also 2-20 was selected by the Houston Chronicle as Coach of the Year; and 2-21 WHEREAS, These exemplary young women and their coaches and 2-22 staff have been a tremendous source of pride for the students and 2-23 faculty at Silsbee High School and their many supporters in the 2-24 community, and their outstanding achievements rightfully have 2-25 earned them special legislative recognition; now, therefore, be it 2-26 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas 2-27 Legislature hereby congratulate head coach Kim Albers and the 3-1 Silsbee High School Lady Tigers team on attaining the most 3-2 successful season in school history and extend to them best wishes 3-3 for continued success in the future; and, be it further 3-4 RESOLVED, That official copies of this resolution be prepared 3-5 for the members of the team and coaching staff and that a copy be 3-6 prepared for prominent display at Silsbee High School as an 3-7 expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives. 3-8 prepared for prominent display at Silsbee High School as an 3-9 expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives. 3-10 Zbranek 3-11 H.R.
