                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, The University of Texas College of Pharmacy has been
    1-2  ranked second in the nation by U.S. News & World Report in the
    1-3  magazine's annual evaluation of America's best graduate schools, a
    1-4  well-deserved honor for this outstanding college on the occasion of
    1-5  its 100th anniversary; and
    1-6        WHEREAS, The University of Texas College of Pharmacy graduate
    1-7  program was established in 1974 and is recognized internationally
    1-8  for the excellence of its graduate-level curriculum, scholarship,
    1-9  faculty members, and students; and
   1-10        WHEREAS, Jointly administered by The University of Texas at
   1-11  Austin and The University of Texas Health Science Center at San
   1-12  Antonio, this exemplary graduate program links students and faculty
   1-13  at campuses in two cities through the use of interactive video
   1-14  technology; determined to remain at the vanguard of pharmaceutical
   1-15  research and technology, the program funds the Drug Information
   1-16  Center on the San Antonio campus and recently has constructed a
   1-17  state-of-the-art facility, the Robert F. McDermott Clinical Science
   1-18  Building; and
   1-19        WHEREAS, With its demanding academic curriculum and its
   1-20  intensive, specialized clinical rotation schedule, this program has
   1-21  served as the training ground for some of the finest professionals
   1-22  in the field of pharmacology, and since 1977 a total of 232 men and
   1-23  women have received their Doctor of Pharmacy degrees from The
   1-24  University of Texas College of Pharmacy; and
    2-1        WHEREAS, Faculty and students of this superior program also
    2-2  are involved in important clinical research and drug trials of
    2-3  benefit to all; in recent years the program's researchers have
    2-4  contributed to major advances in bone marrow transplantation, and
    2-5  they currently lead the way in identifying drugs for the prevention
    2-6  and treatment of numerous diseases, including cancer, AIDS, heart
    2-7  disease, high blood pressure, schizophrenia, and Alzheimer's
    2-8  disease; and
    2-9        WHEREAS, The faculty, staff, and students of The University
   2-10  of Texas College of Pharmacy have demonstrated a profound
   2-11  commitment to hard work, innovation, and excellence in education,
   2-12  and their accomplishments are indeed worthy of special legislative
   2-13  recognition; now, therefore, be it
   2-14        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas
   2-15  Legislature hereby congratulate The University of Texas College of
   2-16  Pharmacy on being named the number two graduate pharmacy school in
   2-17  the nation by U.S. News & World Report; and, be it further
   2-18        RESOLVED, That official copies of this resolution be prepared
   2-19  for Dr. John P. Howe III, president of The University of Texas
   2-20  Health Science Center at San Antonio, Dr. Robert Berdahl, president
   2-21  of The University of Texas at Austin, and Dr. James T. Doluisio,
   2-22  dean of The University of Texas College of Pharmacy, as an
   2-23  expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
