                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, The death of officer John Paul Jones, Jr., of the
    1-2  Dallas Police Department, who was killed in the line of duty on
    1-3  September 3, 1992, is a tragic loss to his family, his fellow peace
    1-4  officers, and the entire community; and
    1-5        WHEREAS, Texans everywhere are indebted to the fine men and
    1-6  women in the law enforcement profession who by their selfless
    1-7  dedication to the public welfare help provide peace and order in
    1-8  society; seldom recognized and often taken for granted by the
    1-9  public they so faithfully serve, these gallant individuals risk
   1-10  their lives daily to ensure domestic tranquility and to protect the
   1-11  lives and property of others; and
   1-12        WHEREAS, Officer Jones maintained an outstanding career of
   1-13  service throughout his three years on the force; his record was one
   1-14  of meritorious service, exceptional bravery, and loyalty consistent
   1-15  with the high ideals of the law enforcement profession; and
   1-16        WHEREAS, Leaving behind a legacy of heroic dedication and
   1-17  self-sacrifice, his memory will serve as a source of inspiration
   1-18  for those who choose to pursue this difficult yet essential
   1-19  profession; now, therefore, be it
   1-20        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas
   1-21  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of officer John Paul
   1-22  Jones, Jr., and extend deepest sympathy to his wife, Sarah; to his
   1-23  parents, John, Sr., and Betty; to his sisters, Lisa, Wendy, and
   1-24  Betsy; and to the many other friends, relatives, and colleagues who
    2-1  knew and loved this fine man; and, be it further
    2-2        RESOLVED, That official copies of this resolution be prepared
    2-3  for the members of his family and that when the Texas House of
    2-4  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of officer
    2-5  John Paul Jones, Jr.
