                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, Dr. Crispin E. "Doc" Sanchez is retiring as dean of
    1-2  student services at Laredo Junior College after devoting 22 years
    1-3  toward the betterment of academics, sports, campus organizations,
    1-4  and student services at this fine Texas institution; and
    1-5        WHEREAS, A graduate of Southwest Texas State University,
    1-6  where he received bachelor's and master's degrees, Dr. Sanchez
    1-7  began his long and distinguished tenure at Laredo Junior College in
    1-8  April 1971, soon after completing work for his Ph.D.  degree at
    1-9  Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois; and
   1-10        WHEREAS, This esteemed official, committed to improving his
   1-11  students' lives and educations, directly supervised many types of
   1-12  student services, including financial aid, student activities,
   1-13  campus health care, enrollment management, counseling and guidance,
   1-14  tutoring and learning support, special populations support, and
   1-15  career counseling and placement; and
   1-16        WHEREAS, From 1984 to 1993, Dr. Sanchez also served as
   1-17  athletic director for Laredo Junior College and helped lead the
   1-18  tennis, baseball, basketball, and volleyball programs to both state
   1-19  and national rankings; a great fan of the college's baseball team,
   1-20  he helped win approval for the construction of the Laredo Junior
   1-21  College baseball field, which will be named in his honor on April
   1-22  24, 1993, following a retirement luncheon; and
   1-23        WHEREAS, Before joining the staff of Laredo Junior College,
   1-24  this exemplary educator served as a classroom teacher, audio-visual
    2-1  education director, and assistant high school principal with the
    2-2  Laredo Independent School District; and
    2-3        WHEREAS, Dr. Sanchez is admired and respected by his
    2-4  colleagues throughout the state and nation, and his advice and
    2-5  expertise have been sought by the U.S.  Department of Education,
    2-6  U.S. Department of Health, Education, and Welfare, and the Texas
    2-7  Higher Education Coordinating Board; and
    2-8        WHEREAS, He also is a member of numerous professional
    2-9  organizations, including the Texas Junior College Teachers
   2-10  Association, American Association for Higher Education, Junior
   2-11  College Student Personnel Association of Texas, and Texas
   2-12  Association of College and University Student Personnel; and
   2-13        WHEREAS, In addition to his many contributions to his state
   2-14  and profession, this courageous gentleman demonstrated
   2-15  extraordinary dedication to his country during World War II, when
   2-16  he flew 35 combat missions; and
   2-17        WHEREAS, Known to all for his compassion and commitment, he
   2-18  today is an active member of the Laredo community who serves on the
   2-19  Texas School for the Blind board of directors and works closely
   2-20  with the Noon Lions and the Airport Advisory Committee for the city
   2-21  of Laredo; and
   2-22        WHEREAS, Dr. Sanchez is an inspiration to students and
   2-23  educators alike, and his many accomplishments are indeed worthy of
   2-24  special legislative recognition; now, therefore, be it
   2-25        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas
   2-26  Legislature hereby congratulate Dr. Crispin E. "Doc" Sanchez on the
   2-27  occasion of his retirement as dean of students at Laredo Junior
    3-1  College and extend to him warmest best wishes for continued
    3-2  happiness in his future endeavors; and, be it further
    3-3        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
    3-4  prepared for Dr. Sanchez as an expression of highest esteem by the
    3-5  Texas House of Representatives.
