R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is proud to honor
1-2 the many members of the Texas Federation of Republican Women and
1-3 their esteemed president, Beverly Kaufman; and
1-4 WHEREAS, Established in 1955, this 10,000-member federation
1-5 is the second largest state organization in the National Federation
1-6 of Republican Women; while Republican women's clubs had enjoyed a
1-7 long tradition in Texas prior to the group's founding, it was in
1-8 that pivotal year that clubs existed in 75 percent of the state's
1-9 congressional districts, the requirement for federation; and
1-10 WHEREAS, At the group's first convention, members laid the
1-11 groundwork for the numerous successful fund-raising and political
1-12 activities they conduct today; since then, members have gathered
1-13 regularly for biennial conventions in cities throughout the state
1-14 to carry out their important work; and
1-15 WHEREAS, A native Texan, current president Beverly Kaufman
1-16 joined this highly regarded organization as a member of the Tejas
1-17 Republican Women in 1970 and has twice served as its president,
1-18 displaying the exceptional leadership, dedication, and experience
1-19 that have earned her the respect and admiration of her peers; and
1-20 WHEREAS, During her successful 23-year affiliation with the
1-21 federation, she has demonstrated characteristic skill and
1-22 versatility in a variety of demanding roles and has chaired and
1-23 participated in a number of state convention committees; and
1-24 WHEREAS, Reflecting her steadfast commitment to the
2-1 democratic process, Mrs. Kaufman has served an impressive 17 times
2-2 as a delegate to state and national conventions of the federation
2-3 and was an alternate delegate to the Republican National Convention
2-4 in New Orleans in 1988; and
2-5 WHEREAS, A former Volunteer of the Year, Mrs. Kaufman most
2-6 recently served as delegate-at-large to the Republican National
2-7 Convention in Houston in 1992 and was chosen as a presidential
2-8 elector; and
2-9 WHEREAS, In addition to her work with the federation,
2-10 Mrs. Kaufman has been a valued administrative assistant for County
2-11 Judge Jon Lindsay since 1975 and is a charter member of the Houston
2-12 Professional Republican Women; and
2-13 WHEREAS, A devoted wife and mother, she has been supported in
2-14 all her endeavors by her husband, Al, a retired businessman, and
2-15 her daughter, Vanessa; in her free time, this remarkable woman
2-16 enjoys cooking, sewing, gardening, and fishing; and
2-17 WHEREAS, The fine work of Mrs. Kaufman and the Texas
2-18 Federation of Republican Women continues the proud tradition of
2-19 informed participation in the political process that is essential
2-20 to the vitality of our cherished democratic institutions; the
2-21 outstanding efforts of Mrs. Kaufman and the many members of this
2-22 valuable organization in this regard are indeed deserving of
2-23 legislative recognition; now, therefore, be it
2-24 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas
2-25 Legislature hereby honor the members of the Texas Federation of
2-26 Republican Women and their esteemed president, Beverly Kaufman, for
2-27 their longstanding support of the political process; and, be it
3-1 further
3-2 RESOLVED, That official copies of this resolution be prepared
3-3 for the organization and President Kaufman as an expression of high
3-4 regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
