                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, Donnie D. Drawhorn, a distinguished educator with
    1-2  the Aldine Independent School District, will retire on April 14,
    1-3  1993, drawing to a close an outstanding 34-year career of dedicated
    1-4  instruction and service to the youth of this state; and
    1-5        WHEREAS, Born and raised in Sabine County, Mr. Drawhorn has
    1-6  devoted many years of his life to the pursuit of personal academic
    1-7  excellence; he received both his bachelor of science degree and his
    1-8  master's degree in education from Sam Houston State University and
    1-9  went on to pursue postgraduate studies at the University of
   1-10  Houston, Vanderbilt University, and the University of Iowa; and
   1-11        WHEREAS, Having entered the teaching profession in 1959 as an
   1-12  instructor of history, economics, and advanced government at Aldine
   1-13  Senior High School, Mr. Drawhorn soon advanced to the position of
   1-14  assistant principal and was later named principal of Stovall Junior
   1-15  High School in 1966; in 1979, he became the principal of MacArthur
   1-16  High School, in which capacity he served with the utmost
   1-17  distinction until 1989 when he accepted his present position as the
   1-18  director of special services for the Aldine Independent School
   1-19  District; and
   1-20        WHEREAS, This dynamic individual has worked tirelessly over
   1-21  the years to encourage the performance of students, emphasizing
   1-22  individual attention, high expectations, and an unshakable belief
   1-23  in students' abilities to learn, and he is highly regarded by his
   1-24  colleagues for his special insight and expertise; and
    2-1        WHEREAS, Mr. Drawhorn has generously shared his time and
    2-2  talents with a variety of worthy organizations and has played a
    2-3  role in improving the classroom atmosphere for principals,
    2-4  teachers, and students alike; as an active member of the State
    2-5  Board of Directors of the Texas Association of Secondary School
    2-6  Principals for six years and as a member of the Advisory Board for
    2-7  Paperwork Reduction for two years; and
    2-8        WHEREAS, Throughout his career as an educator and
    2-9  administrator, Mr. Drawhorn has demonstrated exemplary commitment
   2-10  to the ideal of excellence in education, and his special abilities
   2-11  and skills will be greatly missed by all who have had the privilege
   2-12  to work with this outstanding individual; now, therefore, be it
   2-13        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas
   2-14  Legislature hereby honor Donnie D. Drawhorn for his many years of
   2-15  distinguished service to the field of education in Texas and extend
   2-16  to him warmest best wishes for continued success and happiness in
   2-17  all his future endeavors; and, be it further
   2-18        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
   2-19  prepared for Mr. Drawhorn as an expression of highest regard by the
   2-20  Texas House of Representatives.
