H.R. No. 543
                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, The men and women who serve their fellow Texans
    1-2  through the field of law enforcement are a singular group of public
    1-3  servants who willingly risk their own lives daily to provide
    1-4  protection for their communities; and
    1-5        WHEREAS, One such individual, Reserve Deputy Marion Dyer
    1-6  Hodges of the Gregg County Sheriff's Department died in the line of
    1-7  duty on August 3, 1991, and his untimely death was a tragic loss to
    1-8  his family, to his fellow peace officers, and to the entire
    1-9  community; and
   1-10        WHEREAS, This inspirational individual exemplified in his
   1-11  personal and professional conduct the singular virtues of courage,
   1-12  integrity, and unwavering dedication; and
   1-13        WHEREAS, Throughout his seven years as a reserve, Deputy
   1-14  Hodges's record was one of meritorious service, loyalty, personal
   1-15  bravery, and self-sacrifice consistent with the high ideals of the
   1-16  law enforcement profession; and
   1-17        WHEREAS, A devoted husband and father, he was supported in
   1-18  all his endeavors by his beloved wife, Sue, and by his children,
   1-19  Debbie and Danny; and
   1-20        WHEREAS, This praiseworthy officer was a man of tremendous
   1-21  compassion whose unfailing sense of duty reflected a deep
   1-22  commitment to the welfare of others; though his life has been
   1-23  tragically cut short, his memory will live on in the hearts of all
   1-24  who were privileged to know him; now, therefore, be it
    2-1        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas
    2-2  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Deputy Marion Dyer
    2-3  Hodges of the Gregg County Sheriff's Department and extend deepest
    2-4  sympathy to his wife, Sue; to his daughter, Debbie; to his son,
    2-5  Danny; and to the many other friends and relatives of this
    2-6  exceptional man; and, be it further
    2-7        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
    2-8  prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas
    2-9  House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of
   2-10  Deputy Marion Dyer Hodges.
