No. 545 73R7652 JLZ-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, Texans everywhere are indebted to the fine men and 1-2 women in the law enforcement profession who, by their selfless 1-3 dedication to the public welfare, have enabled us to enjoy the 1-4 benefits of a peaceful and orderly society; and 1-5 WHEREAS, Seldom recognized and often taken for granted by the 1-6 public they so faithfully serve, these gallant individuals daily 1-7 risk their lives in order to ensure domestic tranquility and to 1-8 protect the lives and property of others; and 1-9 WHEREAS, Officer Gary C. Hires of the Haltom City Police 1-10 Department exemplified in his personal and professional conduct the 1-11 singular virtues of courage, integrity, and unwavering dedication; 1-12 and 1-13 WHEREAS, Throughout his 19 years on the force, Officer 1-14 Hires's record was one of meritorious service, loyalty, personal 1-15 bravery, and self-sacrifice consistent with the high ideals of the 1-16 law enforcement profession; and 1-17 WHEREAS, Carrying out with characteristic valor the hazardous 1-18 tasks that were a routine part of his job, he was killed in the 1-19 line of duty on March 6, 1993, and his death was a tragic loss to 1-20 his family, to his fellow peace officers, and to the entire 1-21 community; and 1-22 WHEREAS, His legacy of heroic dedication and self-sacrifice 1-23 will endure and continue to be a source of inspiration to those who 1-24 follow in a difficult but essential profession; now, therefore, be 2-1 it 2-2 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas 2-3 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Officer Gary C. Hires 2-4 of the Haltom City Police Department and extend deepest sympathy to 2-5 his wife, Stephanie; to his three sons, Gary, Steven, and David; 2-6 and to the other members of his family; and, be it further 2-7 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-8 prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas 2-9 House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of 2-10 Officer Gary C. Hires.
