                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, The death of Officer Ernesto Serna of the El Paso
    1-2  Police Department, who was killed in the line of duty on November
    1-3  12, 1991, is a tragic loss to his family, his fellow peace
    1-4  officers, and the entire community; and
    1-5        WHEREAS, Texans everywhere are indebted to the fine men and
    1-6  women in the law enforcement profession who by their selfless
    1-7  dedication to the public welfare help provide peace and order in
    1-8  society; seldom recognized and often taken for granted by the
    1-9  public they so faithfully serve, these gallant individuals risk
   1-10  their lives daily to ensure domestic tranquility and to protect the
   1-11  lives and property of others; and
   1-12        WHEREAS, Officer Serna maintained an outstanding career of
   1-13  service throughout his two years on the force, and his record was
   1-14  one of meritorious service, exceptional bravery, and loyalty
   1-15  consistent with the high ideals of the law enforcement profession;
   1-16  and
   1-17        WHEREAS, Leaving behind a legacy of heroic dedication and
   1-18  self-sacrifice, his memory will serve as a source of inspiration
   1-19  for those who choose to pursue this difficult yet essential
   1-20  profession; now, therefore, be it
   1-21        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas
   1-22  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Officer Ernesto Serna
   1-23  and extend deepest sympathy to his wife, Patricia; to his sons,
   1-24  Eloy, Jacob, and Kristopher; to his parents, Jose and Francisca; to
    2-1  his sisters, Nena, Margarita, Delores, Terry, Helen, and Nina; to
    2-2  his brothers, Gilbert, Jerry, Ramon, Joseph, and Arturo; and to the
    2-3  many other friends, relatives, and colleagues of this fine man;
    2-4  and, be it further
    2-5        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
    2-6  prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas
    2-7  House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of
    2-8  Officer Ernesto Serna.
