By: Goolsby H.R. No. 560 73R8154 LBD-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The death of Corporal Billy W. "Doughboy" Daugherty 1-2 of the Dallas Police Department, who was killed in the line of duty 1-3 on August 14, 1992, is a tragic loss to his family, his fellow 1-4 peace officers, and the entire community; and 1-5 WHEREAS, Texans everywhere are indebted to the fine men and 1-6 women in the law enforcement profession who by their selfless 1-7 dedication to the public welfare help provide peace and order in 1-8 society; seldom recognized and often taken for granted by the 1-9 public they so faithfully serve, these gallant individuals risk 1-10 their lives daily to ensure domestic tranquility and to protect the 1-11 lives and property of others; and 1-12 WHEREAS, Maintaining the finest standards and traditions of 1-13 this calling, Corporal Daugherty enjoyed an outstanding career as a 1-14 peace officer throughout his 21 years on the force; his record was 1-15 one of meritorious service, exceptional bravery, and loyalty 1-16 consistent with the high ideals of the law enforcement profession; 1-17 and 1-18 WHEREAS, Though gone from us now, he has left behind a legacy 1-19 of heroic dedication and self-sacrifice, and his memory will serve 1-20 for years to come as a source of inspiration for those who choose 1-21 to pursue this difficult yet essential profession; now, therefore, 1-22 be it 1-23 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas 1-24 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Corporal Billy W. 2-1 "Doughboy" Daugherty and extend deepest sympathy to his wife, 2-2 Patricia; to his three beloved sons, Michael, Ronald, and Sean; to 2-3 his parents, Ralph and Margaret; to his two brothers, Delbert and 2-4 Hughie; and to the many other friends, relatives, and colleagues 2-5 who knew and loved this fine man; and, be it further 2-6 RESOLVED, That official copies of this resolution be prepared 2-7 for the members of his family and that when the Texas House of 2-8 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Corporal 2-9 Billy W. "Doughboy" Daugherty.
