H.R. No. 566 R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, Otis Wilson Burroughs is retiring from his position 1-2 as superintendent of the Banquete Independent School District 1-3 (BISD), drawing to a close a distinguished career as a teacher and 1-4 administrator that has spanned 37 years; and 1-5 WHEREAS, Prior to undertaking his long and rewarding career 1-6 in education, this outstanding patriot served with distinction in 1-7 the United States Air Force from 1951 to 1955; and 1-8 WHEREAS, Eager to participate in the vital process of shaping 1-9 young minds, Mr. Burroughs found ample opportunities to do so on 1-10 his return to civilian life when he became a teacher and coach; 1-11 after four years as a classroom instructor, he entered a new phase 1-12 in his career when he joined the BISD as high school principal; and 1-13 WHEREAS, He proved to be a capable administrator as well as 1-14 an effective teacher and provided superlative leadership in this 1-15 capacity for two years; and 1-16 WHEREAS, Deservedly promoted to superintendent of the BISD, 1-17 he continued to demonstrate remarkable administrative skills during 1-18 his 31 years of tireless service in that demanding position; and 1-19 WHEREAS, Throughout his exceptional career, this devoted 1-20 family man has enjoyed the love and support of his wife, Sylvia, 1-21 his children, William, Melissa, Douglas, and Robert, and his eight 1-22 grandchildren; and 1-23 WHEREAS, After nearly four decades of outstanding service to 1-24 the people of his community, Mr. Burroughs can begin his 2-1 well-deserved retirement assured in the knowledge that he has made 2-2 a positive difference in the lives of several generations of 2-3 schoolchildren, and he can indeed look back with tremendous pride 2-4 and satisfaction on his exemplary accomplishments as an educator 2-5 and administrator; now, therefore, be it 2-6 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas 2-7 Legislature hereby congratulate Otis Wilson Burroughs on his 2-8 exceptional efforts in the field of education and extend to him 2-9 best wishes for a happy and rewarding retirement; and, be it 2-10 further 2-11 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-12 prepared for Mr. Burroughs as an expression of high regard by the 2-13 Texas House of Representatives. 2-14 Texas House of Representatives. 2-15 Berlanga 2-16 H.R.
