R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, The Texas Aggie Band was organized at the A&M
1-2 College of Texas in 1894 by Arthur Jenkins and Joseph Holick as a
1-3 volunteer organization of 13 students; and
1-4 WHEREAS, From that beginning, the Texas Aggie Band has
1-5 developed into the nation's premier military marching band,
1-6 consisting of over 300 men and women students at Texas A&M
1-7 University, and is currently under the direction of Lt. Colonel Ray
1-8 E. Toler, USAF (Ret.); and
1-9 WHEREAS, The Texas Aggie Band is known and respected for its
1-10 outstanding military marching style, its tradition of continuous
1-11 play throughout its marching maneuvers, and its unique presentation
1-12 of intricate marching formations at each halftime of a Texas Aggie
1-13 football game; and
1-14 WHEREAS, The Texas Aggie Band has brought recognition and
1-15 honor to Texas A&M University, its students, and its former
1-16 students by performing on national television on numerous occasions
1-17 and travelling to out-of-state football games and parades; and
1-18 WHEREAS, The Texas Aggie Band was honored to be chosen to
1-19 represent all Texans by marching in the 1989 Bicentennial
1-20 Presidential Inaugural Parade in Washington, D.C.; and
1-21 WHEREAS, By building on its proud tradition of
1-22 excellence and service, the Texas Aggie Band continues to provide
1-23 young men and women with opportunities to excel both as musicians
2-1 and leaders through membership in the Corps of Cadets of Texas A&M
2-2 University; and
2-3 WHEREAS, The Texas Aggie Band will be celebrating its
2-4 centennial in 1994; now, therefore, be it
2-5 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd
2-6 Legislature of the State of Texas hereby congratulate the Texas
2-7 Aggie Band on the momentous occasion of its centennial year and
2-8 commends all persons who have participated in and assisted this
2-9 organization to ensure its success and continuation of excellence;
2-10 and, be it further
2-11 RESOLVED, Than an official copy of this resolution be
2-12 prepared for Lt. Colonel Ray E. Toler, USAF (Ret.), and for Texas
2-13 A&M University as an expression of high regard by the House of
2-14 Representatives of the State of Texas.
