                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives takes special
    1-2  pleasure in honoring Marilyn Lancaster for her exceptional tenure
    1-3  as president of the Texas Junior College Teachers Association; and
    1-4        WHEREAS, With more than 6,300 educators from every academic
    1-5  discipline and from every community, junior, and technical college
    1-6  in the state, the Texas Junior College Teachers Association has
    1-7  attained more members than ever before under Ms. Lancaster's
    1-8  visionary leadership, and today is the largest organization of
    1-9  post-secondary teachers in the state; and
   1-10        WHEREAS, Admired and respected by all who have had the
   1-11  pleasure of working with her, Ms. Lancaster has demonstrated
   1-12  compassion, integrity, and perseverance as the leader of this
   1-13  outstanding group; and
   1-14        WHEREAS, The recipient of an associate of arts degree from
   1-15  Navarro College and bachelor of science and master of science
   1-16  degrees from Texas Tech University, this esteemed instructor has
   1-17  also pursued postgraduate studies at Texas Tech University and The
   1-18  University of Texas at Austin and currently is enrolled in the
   1-19  Texas Tech doctoral program; and
   1-20        WHEREAS, Since 1980 Ms. Lancaster has won accolades for her
   1-21  teaching of English and developmental English at Western Texas
   1-22  College and has served on several committees at this fine
   1-23  institution; and
   1-24        WHEREAS, Prominent in her field, this accomplished educator
    2-1  is a member of numerous scholarly and professional organizations
    2-2  and, before becoming president of the Texas Junior College Teachers
    2-3  Association, served as state secretary from 1989 to 1990 and state
    2-4  vice-president from 1990 to 1991; and
    2-5        WHEREAS, Ms. Lancaster is a true inspiration to all Texans
    2-6  dedicated to improving the quality of education in this state and
    2-7  her many accomplishments are indeed worthy of special recognition
    2-8  and praise; now, therefore, be it
    2-9        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas
   2-10  Legislature hereby commend Marilyn Lancaster for her distinguished
   2-11  service in the field of education; and, be it further
   2-12        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
   2-13  prepared for Ms. Lancaster as an expression of high esteem by the
   2-14  Texas House of Representatives.
