H.R. No. 578
                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, The passing of Thomas W. May of Nacogdoches on March
    1-2  13, 1993, at the age of 53, has brought a great loss to the many
    1-3  friends and relatives of this fine gentleman; and
    1-4        WHEREAS, A native Texan, he was born November 2, 1939, in
    1-5  Ennis and was graduated from Ennis High School in 1959; and
    1-6        WHEREAS, Following high school, Mr. May earned a bachelor's
    1-7  degree from Stephen F. Austin State University in 1968 and went on
    1-8  to begin an outstanding career in education that would span more
    1-9  than two decades; and
   1-10        WHEREAS, This respected educator taught in the San Augustine
   1-11  school system before accepting a teaching position with Nacogdoches
   1-12  High School, where he distinguished himself as a special education
   1-13  teacher and as the vocational education coordinator for the school
   1-14  throughout an outstanding 22-year tenure; and
   1-15        WHEREAS, During this time, Mr. May was in charge of the
   1-16  school's Cooperative School Program, in which capacity he tailored
   1-17  academic instruction, vocational training, and employment
   1-18  opportunities to suit the needs of individual students, helping
   1-19  them to achieve their fullest potential; and
   1-20        WHEREAS, In addition to his professional activities, Mr. May
   1-21  was a devoted family man who enjoyed a happy and fulfilling
   1-22  marriage with his wife of 21 years, the former Mary Nell Monk, and
   1-23  who took great pride in the achievements of his four children; and
   1-24        WHEREAS, A warm and caring individual, Mr. May was blessed
    2-1  with the rare ability to give of himself, a gift he expressed
    2-2  through his friendships, his work, and his optimistic approach to
    2-3  life; though his presence will be deeply missed by all who knew
    2-4  him, his unique spirit will remain in the hearts of those whose
    2-5  lives he touched for many years to come; now, therefore, be it
    2-6        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas
    2-7  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Thomas W. May and
    2-8  extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family:  to his wife,
    2-9  Mary Nell; to his son, Thomas William May, Jr., of Nacogdoches; to
   2-10  his daughters and son-in-law, Elayne Horan of Tyler, Mary Alice May
   2-11  of Nacogdoches, and Sonja Lea and Mark Summer of Silsbee; to his
   2-12  mother and stepfather, Mr. and Mrs. A. A. Brown of Ennis; to his
   2-13  stepmother, Mrs. Evelyn May of Palestine; to his grandchild, Alya
   2-14  Horan of Tyler; to his brothers, Reese Brown of Hawkins, Marty
   2-15  Brown of Wichita Falls, Dale Brown of Plano, Darrel May of
   2-16  Waxahachie, and Sam May of Palestine; to his aunt, Mrs. Mildred
   2-17  King of Ennis; and to his cousins, Elaine Pool of Ennis and
   2-18  Brodwynne Patak; and, be it further
   2-19        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
   2-20  prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas
   2-21  House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of
   2-22  Thomas W. May.
