                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, Currently celebrating its 10th year of existence at
    1-2  Rockdale High School, the Golden Girls drill team has delighted
    1-3  audiences throughout the 1992-1993 season, maintaining its
    1-4  decade-long reputation for outstanding showmanship by performing
    1-5  with style and precision at sporting events and drill team
    1-6  competitions across the state; and
    1-7        WHEREAS, Under the superb direction of Rowena Ortega, this
    1-8  talented and dedicated group of young women consistently has
    1-9  demonstrated the unique energy and drive that have been the
   1-10  hallmark of Golden Girls drill teams for the past decade; and
   1-11        WHEREAS, Competing at the National Drill Team Competition in
   1-12  February, the Golden Girls stole the show and were deservedly named
   1-13  "Most Entertaining Drill Team" and were recognized as "Outstanding
   1-14  3A Team" for their prop and military routines, in addition to
   1-15  winning the Grand Sweepstakes award; and
   1-16        WHEREAS, The Golden Girls also dominated the Showmakers of
   1-17  America Competition in March, taking "Grand Sweepstakes" honors and
   1-18  earning "Best in Class 3A" for their military, prop, and kick
   1-19  routines; and
   1-20        WHEREAS, During the 1992-1993 season the team has benefited
   1-21  greatly from the inspirational leadership provided by officers
   1-22  Erica Phillips, Kelly Shoemake, Julie Betchan, Jennifer Keen, and
   1-23  Staci Davis, an exceptional cadre whose exemplary efforts earned
   1-24  each of these Golden Girls officers a superior rating of Division I
    2-1  at both the National Drill Team Competition and Showmakers of
    2-2  America Competition; and
    2-3        WHEREAS, Also contributing their talents to the team's
    2-4  exceptional season were members Becky Dixon, Rhonda Hefferman,
    2-5  Corey Fartheree, Lamar Burns, Jessica Gutierrez, Melissa Freeman,
    2-6  Nancy Noles, Jamie Cohn, Erika Lange, Kari Etheridge, Shellea
    2-7  Cleveland, Resha Dixon, Rosie Johnson, Lindsey Kruse, Gina Doss,
    2-8  Christy Williams, Zena Baban, Amanda Hodson, Crystal Roderick,
    2-9  Rebecca Gerren, Erica Doss, Amy Retchloff, and Robyn Kerlin and
   2-10  team manager Rachel Davenport; and
   2-11        WHEREAS, Known for their spirited performances and sparkling
   2-12  choreography, the Rockdale High School Golden Girls have brought
   2-13  well-deserved acclaim to their school and their community, and
   2-14  these talented and dedicated young women are indeed worthy of
   2-15  special legislative recognition; now, therefore, be it
   2-16        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas
   2-17  Legislature hereby honor the Rockdale High School Golden Girls
   2-18  drill team for its outstanding accomplishments during the 1992-1993
   2-19  season and extend to all of the girls best wishes for continued
   2-20  success in the future; and, be it further
   2-21        RESOLVED, That official copies of this resolution be prepared
   2-22  for the team members, the team manager, and director Rowena Ortega,
   2-23  and that a copy be prepared for prominent display at Rockdale High
   2-24  School as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of
   2-25  Representatives.
