                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, Possessing a superb soprano voice, Emily Pulley of
    1-2  College Station vaulted into the ranks of music's elite recently
    1-3  when she won the 34th annual Metropolitan Opera National Council
    1-4  auditions; and
    1-5        WHEREAS, This prestigious competition attracted an
    1-6  international field of nearly 2,000 accomplished vocalists, with
    1-7  the 23 most outstanding performers advancing to the final
    1-8  competition in New York City, each hoping to earn one of eight
    1-9  coveted winner's positions; and
   1-10        WHEREAS, Responding magnificently to the intense pressure of
   1-11  finalist competition, the 25-year-old Texan demonstrated her
   1-12  exceptional vocal range and control with flawless performances of
   1-13  two arias, "Depuis le jour" from Charpentier's Louise and "Quando
   1-14  me'n vo" from Puccini's La Boheme; and
   1-15        WHEREAS, Many of the world's premiere opera performers, among
   1-16  them Kathleen Battle, Jessye Norman, and Sherrill Milnes, have
   1-17  participated in past auditions, and 97 former auditioners are on
   1-18  the Metropolitan Opera's current season roster, indicative of the
   1-19  illustrious company Ms. Pulley now has joined; and
   1-20        WHEREAS, Born in Jackson, Mississippi, this talented young
   1-21  woman moved with her parents to College Station when she was two
   1-22  months old; she graduated summa cum laude from West Texas State
   1-23  University and currently is pursuing a master's degree in music at
   1-24  the University of North Texas; and
    2-1        WHEREAS, Constant support for her musical endeavors has been
    2-2  provided by her parents, Gene and Jane Pulley, who tirelessly
    2-3  encourage their daughter to pursue her singing goals; and
    2-4        WHEREAS, Emily Pulley has achieved outstanding success as a
    2-5  singer, developing her vocal abilities to meet the rigorous demands
    2-6  of  operatic performance, and it is indeed appropriate that she be
    2-7  given special legislative recognition; now, therefore, be it
    2-8        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas
    2-9  Legislature hereby congratulate Emily Pulley on winning the 34th
   2-10  annual Metropolitan Opera National Council auditions and extend to
   2-11  her best wishes for continued success in the future; and, be it
   2-12  further
   2-13        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
   2-14  prepared for Ms. Pulley as an expression of high regard by the
   2-15  Texas House of Representatives.
