                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, Sergeant Tommy Roach and Officer Paul Bogan of the
    1-2  Rockdale Police Department recently received plaques of
    1-3  commendation from the Rockdale City Council in recognition of the
    1-4  outstanding bravery they demonstrated in a shootout with a Houston
    1-5  man on January 19, 1993; and
    1-6        WHEREAS, While the officers were attempting to take the man
    1-7  into custody in connection with an earlier shooting, he resisted
    1-8  and fired five rounds at them from a .38 special; the policemen
    1-9  returned fire, wounding the man, who was later jailed for attempted
   1-10  capital murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon; and
   1-11        WHEREAS, Officers Roach and Bogan both sustained injuries in
   1-12  the gun battle--Sergeant Roach suffered a grazing bullet wound to
   1-13  the back and Officer Bogan suffered hearing problems from a
   1-14  close-range muzzle blast; and
   1-15        WHEREAS, Texans everywhere are indebted to the courageous men
   1-16  and women of the law enforcement profession who risk their lives
   1-17  daily to provide peace and order in society and who are seldom
   1-18  recognized and often taken for granted by the public they so
   1-19  faithfully serve; the exceptional valor and dedication these two
   1-20  exemplary officers displayed in the pursuit of their duties has
   1-21  been acknowledged by a grateful community and their actions on
   1-22  behalf of the citizens of Rockdale are indeed deserving of praise
   1-23  and special legislative recognition; now, therefore, be it
   1-24        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas
    2-1  Legislature hereby commend Sergeant Tommy Roach and Officer Paul
    2-2  Bogan for their outstanding bravery in the line of duty; and, be it
    2-3  further
    2-4        RESOLVED, That official copies of this resolution be prepared
    2-5  for each of these fine officers as an expression of high regard by
    2-6  the Texas House of Representatives.
