R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, The many friends and family of Tommy J. Lehman were
1-2 deeply saddened by the passing of this fine lady on January 30,
1-3 1993, at the age of 82; and
1-4 WHEREAS, A native Texan, Mrs. Lehman was born on October 19,
1-5 1910, in Rusk County to Allen and Laura Booker Jones; and
1-6 WHEREAS, In 1941, she married Henry "Bud" Lehman with whom
1-7 she shared more than a half century of love and happiness; and
1-8 WHEREAS, The couple eventually settled in Giddings, where
1-9 Mrs. Lehman became a prominent business and civic leader; her
1-10 tireless contributions of time and talent to many area
1-11 organizations earned her the respect and admiration of many people
1-12 throughout her community; and
1-13 WHEREAS, Mrs. Lehman was particularly committed to the
1-14 Giddings Garden Club and the Lee County Heritage Society, and her
1-15 many friends in those organizations will miss both her
1-16 companionship and her selfless dedication; a devout member of the
1-17 Presbyterian Church, she always found time in her busy schedule to
1-18 serve her church in many different capacities over the years; and
1-19 WHEREAS, Both Mr. and Mrs. Lehman were actively involved in
1-20 state politics for many years and were supportive of one another in
1-21 their respective endeavors; throughout her husband's distinguished
1-22 20-year career in the Texas Legislature, which included a term in
1-23 which he served as dean of the house from 1948 to 1949, Mrs. Lehman
1-24 participated in numerous political activities and organizations;
2-1 she also was a member of the Legislative Wives Club and served one
2-2 term as secretary/treasurer for that group; and
2-3 WHEREAS, In serving her family, her community, and her state,
2-4 this extraordinary woman gave generously to those around her and
2-5 left them with a legacy of love and compassion by which to remember
2-6 her; though her presence is gone from us now, her unique spirit
2-7 will surely live on in the hearts of the many people whose lives
2-8 she has touched; now, therefore, be it
2-9 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas
2-10 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Tommy J. Lehman and
2-11 extend deepest sympathy to the members of her family: to her
2-12 husband, Henry "Bud" Lehman of Giddings; to her niece, Nancy K.
2-13 Kelly of Deer Park; to her nephew, John J. Fleet III of Dallas; to
2-14 her brothers-in-law, John J. Fleet II of Dallas and Jake Jacobsen
2-15 of Giddings; and to all of the many friends and relatives of this
2-16 beloved woman; and, be it further
2-17 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-18 prepared for the members of her family and that when the Texas
2-19 House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of
2-20 Tommy J. Lehman.
