No. 595 73R9321 SAJ-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The recent passing of Maurice Joel Simpson on April 1-2 7, 1993, at the age of 72, has brought a great loss to the many 1-3 friends and relatives of this distinguished Beaumont businessman; 1-4 and 1-5 WHEREAS, The son of Charlie and Mary Kirkwood Simpson, he was 1-6 born February 1, 1921, and earned an associate degree from 1-7 Jefferson Junior College; and 1-8 WHEREAS, A patriotic man, Mr. Simpson honorably served his 1-9 country for two years during World War II as a sergeant with the 1-10 United States Army in the European Theater; and 1-11 WHEREAS, He and his wife, the former Dorothy Theresa Dalco, 1-12 enjoyed a warm and deeply fulfilling union, and their warm and 1-13 loving family included five children and seven grandchildren; and 1-14 WHEREAS, Mr. Simpson was well known throughout Beaumont for 1-15 his abilities as a businessman and entrepreneur, and he combined 1-16 foresight, perseverance, and hard work to become the successful 1-17 owner and operator of a steak house and several barbecue 1-18 restaurants; and 1-19 WHEREAS, Above all else, Mr. Simpson was a kind and 1-20 compassionate man who will long be remembered for his untiring 1-21 generosity and his assistance to many in their times of need; and 1-22 WHEREAS, The qualities that endeared him to so many emanated 1-23 from his deep and abiding faith, which he expressed as a devout 1-24 member of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church where he served the 2-1 congregation as a member of the joint board of deacons and 2-2 trustees; and 2-3 WHEREAS, Throughout his lifetime, this exceptional gentleman 2-4 touched the lives of many people, and though his presence will be 2-5 deeply missed, his memory will endure in the hearts of those who 2-6 came to know and love him; now, therefore, be it 2-7 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas 2-8 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Maurice Joel Simpson 2-9 and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his 2-10 wife, Dorothy Theresa Simpson; to his two sons, Maurice Simpson and 2-11 Royce Simpson; to his three daughters, Joan Stewart, Mary Williams, 2-12 and Rosalyn Simpson; to his seven grandchildren, Kenya and Kendrick 2-13 Williams, Tatunisha, Omari, and Jabari Simpson, Jessica Caraballo 2-14 Simpson, and Maurice Edward Cheeks; and to his many other family 2-15 members and friends; and, be it further 2-16 RESOLVED, That official copies of this resolution be prepared 2-17 for the members of his family and that when the Texas House of 2-18 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Maurice 2-19 Joel Simpson.
