H.R. No. 596 R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, In April of each year, National Crime Victims' 1-2 Rights Week is sponsored by criminal justice and victim service 1-3 practitioners as an occasion to publicize and affirm the rights of 1-4 those who suffer as victims of violent crime; and 1-5 WHEREAS, During this week, many public education and 1-6 community awareness activities are sponsored to help the citizens 1-7 of Texas understand the experience of crime victims and to learn 1-8 about the many critical services available to those who fall prey 1-9 to criminal offenders; and 1-10 WHEREAS, Violent crime affects the lives of countless Texans 1-11 each year, and it is crucial that all citizens be fully aware of 1-12 their legal rights and the full range of services available to 1-13 crime victims, for only in this way can the criminal justice system 1-14 secure the rights of the innocent as well as the guilty; and 1-15 WHEREAS, Aware of the significance of this work for 1-16 communities across the nation, members of the United States 1-17 Congress have asked President Clinton to proclaim April 25 through 1-18 May 1, 1993, to be "National Crime Victims' Rights Week" and to 1-19 join with them in bringing this issue to greater public awareness; 1-20 and 1-21 WHEREAS, It is entirely fitting that the Texas House of 1-22 Representatives lend its full support to this worthy observance and 1-23 make every effort to promote greater awareness of crime victims' 1-24 rights in every jurisdiction of this state; now, therefore, be it 2-1 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas 2-2 Legislature hereby commend the many dedicated professionals and 2-3 volunteers who are working to secure rights and services for the 2-4 victims of crime and urge all Texans to observe the week of April 2-5 25 through May 1, 1993, as National Crime Victims' Rights Week. 2-6 Alonzo 2-7 Gallegos 2-8 Alonzo
