                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, While few athletic teams are able to realize the
    1-2  dream of attaining a championship in their given sport, fewer still
    1-3  can marshal the dedication and drive to duplicate such a phenomenal
    1-4  task, but the Laneville High School Yellowjackets joined that elite
    1-5  group in 1993, when they successfully defended their title as
    1-6  University Interscholastic League Class A boys' basketball
    1-7  champions; and
    1-8        WHEREAS, Taking a 34-3 record into the state tournament in
    1-9  Austin, the Laneville team put on an incredible offensive display
   1-10  in the semifinal round, outscoring Calvert High School 91-73 to
   1-11  earn a coveted spot in the Class A finals; and
   1-12        WHEREAS, Fueled by the unquenchable desire to retain their
   1-13  hard-won crown, the Yellowjackets, led by Class A Tournament Most
   1-14  Valuable Player Brad Harris, overcame Weatherford Brock 77-68 and
   1-15  earned a well-deserved place in the storied history of Texas high
   1-16  school athletics with back-to-back titles; and
   1-17        WHEREAS, The season's outstanding achievements were a result
   1-18  of a dedicated team effort and consistent contributions throughout
   1-19  the year by team members Corey Barnes, Brad Harris, Jerome Polk,
   1-20  Chad Grant, Kelvin Vanzandt, Derrick Waggoner, Richard Hammett,
   1-21  Terry Willis, Kendrick Blanton, Keith Renfro, Brian Brantley, Joe
   1-22  Rodriquez, Brent Brantley, DeVoy Brantley, Bubba Hays, Cedric
   1-23  Bowens, and Fred Bowens; and
   1-24        WHEREAS, Inspiration and firm leadership were the hallmark of
    2-1  head coach Bennie Gupton, whose exemplary skills have molded the
    2-2  team into a consistent winner, and he was ably supported by
    2-3  assistant coach Dexter Lovett; and
    2-4        WHEREAS, Other invaluable off-the-court assistance was
    2-5  supplied by cheerleader sponsors Jean Kelly and Tracie Johnson; and
    2-6        WHEREAS, The Laneville High School boys' basketball program
    2-7  has become a Class A dynasty, losing only 10 games in the last four
    2-8  years and defending its home court without a loss since November
    2-9  1987, and their consistent excellence, which has culminated in two
   2-10  successive state championships, is indeed worthy of special
   2-11  legislative recognition; now, therefore, be it
   2-12        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas
   2-13  Legislature hereby congratulate head coach Bennie Gupton and the
   2-14  Laneville High School Yellowjackets boys' basketball team on their
   2-15  1993 Class A championship and extend to them best wishes for
   2-16  continued success in the future; and, be it further
   2-17        RESOLVED, That official copies of this resolution be prepared
   2-18  for members of the team and coaching staff and that an official
   2-19  copy of this resolution be prepared for prominent display at
   2-20  Laneville High School as an expression of high regard by the Texas
   2-21  House of Representatives.
