No. 603 73R9415 E R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, Angelina County is in the heart of the East Texas 1-2 Piney Woods, where timber and other agricultural industries are the 1-3 main strength of the economy; and 1-4 WHEREAS, Angelina County contains a national forest, 1-5 beautiful lakes, several rivers, and many other natural 1-6 attractions, making this area a popular destination for tourists, 1-7 hikers, campers, fishermen, hunters, and other nature-lovers; and 1-8 WHEREAS, Angelina County is the location of such attractions 1-9 as the Ellen Trout Park and Zoo, the Museum of East Texas, the 1-10 Texas Forestry Museum, many beautiful parks, and outstanding 1-11 convention facilities, including the Lufkin Civic Center and the 1-12 Angelina County Exposition Center; and 1-13 WHEREAS, The Angelina County Chamber of Commerce does a 1-14 splendid job of serving the people of East Texas; and 1-15 WHEREAS, The Angelina County Chamber of Commerce is promoting 1-16 the Ninth Annual Texas Forest Festival September 22-26, 1993, at 1-17 the Angelina County Exposition Center; and 1-18 WHEREAS, The festival celebrates an industry that has 1-19 historically shaped the area and continues as a tremendous positive 1-20 influence on the people and economy of Deep East Texas; and 1-21 WHEREAS, The festival attracts crowds of more than 15,000 for 1-22 such activities as the Southern Hushpuppy Olympics, the Iron-Man 1-23 Lumberjack Show, the Pineywoods Purgatory Bike Ride, and the Mud 1-24 Race, as well as arts and crafts, a cheerleading competition, 2-1 volleyball, "Go-Texan" activities, a car show, a fun run, a petting 2-2 zoo, and a carnival; now, therefore, be it 2-3 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas 2-4 Legislature hereby recognize the Texas Forest Festival as the 2-5 "Official Texas Forest Festival" for the State of Texas; and, be it 2-6 further 2-7 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-8 prepared for the organizers of the Texas Forest Festival as an 2-9 expression of highest regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
