                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, The death of Officer Juan Rincon "J. R." Prieto,
    1-2  Jr., of the Corpus Christi Police Department, who was killed in the
    1-3  line of duty on February 2, 1993, is a tragic loss to his family,
    1-4  to his fellow peace officers, and to the entire community; and
    1-5        WHEREAS, Texans everywhere are indebted to the courageous men
    1-6  and women of the law enforcement profession who by their selfless
    1-7  dedication to the public welfare help provide peace and order in
    1-8  society; seldom recognized and often taken for granted by the
    1-9  public they so faithfully serve, these gallant individuals risk
   1-10  their lives daily to ensure domestic tranquility and to protect the
   1-11  lives and property of others; and
   1-12        WHEREAS, Throughout his 28 years on the force, Officer Prieto
   1-13  compiled an outstanding record of meritorious service, steadfast
   1-14  loyalty, and exceptional bravery, exemplifying the highest ideals
   1-15  of the law enforcement profession; and
   1-16        WHEREAS, Respected and admired by his fellow officers and his
   1-17  many friends in the community, Officer Prieto served with
   1-18  distinction in both the tactical unit and the patrol division of
   1-19  the department and had earned several commendations throughout his
   1-20  fine career; and
   1-21        WHEREAS, A man of great courage, integrity, and commitment,
   1-22  Officer Prieto leaves behind a legacy of heroism and
   1-23  self-sacrifice, and his memory will continue to be a source of
   1-24  inspiration to those who follow in this difficult yet essential
    2-1  occupation; now, therefore, be it
    2-2        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas
    2-3  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Officer Juan Rincon
    2-4  "J. R." Prieto, Jr., of the Corpus Christi Police Department and
    2-5  extend deepest sympathy to the members of his family:  to his wife,
    2-6  Guadalupe; to his sons, Felipe and Ricardo; to his daughters,
    2-7  Melinda and Maricela; to his mother, Francisca; to his brothers,
    2-8  Ruben and Jovestino; to his sister, Sylvia; and to the other
    2-9  members of his family; and, be it further
   2-10        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
   2-11  prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas
   2-12  House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of
   2-13  Officer Juan Rincon "J. R." Prieto, Jr.
