                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, The Barbers Hill High School debate teams continued
    1-2  a tradition of excellence by winning the 1993 University
    1-3  Interscholastic League state 3-A Cross-Examination Debate contest
    1-4  recently at The University of Texas at Austin; and
    1-5        WHEREAS, Under the accomplished direction of E. Harvey Craig,
    1-6  the teams performed with consummate skill as they competed against
    1-7  57 teams from 32 districts around the state; through hard work and
    1-8  painstaking preparation, the cross-examination debate team achieved
    1-9  a great victory for the school and upheld the high standards of
   1-10  excellence that led Barbers Hill to state debate championships in
   1-11  1989 and 1990; and
   1-12        WHEREAS, Emily Stephens and Molly Stephens, members of one of
   1-13  three Barbers Hill teams advancing to this year's competition,
   1-14  demonstrated particular expertise by defeating teams from Eastland,
   1-15  Pleasant Grove, Vernon, Dimmitt, Glen Rose, Denver City,
   1-16  Montgomery, and Crane high schools; in addition to capturing the
   1-17  cross-examination debate title, they won individual honors, with
   1-18  Molly Stephens receiving the first debate speaker award and Emily
   1-19  Stephens receiving the second debate speaker award; and
   1-20        WHEREAS, In addition to their most recent victory, the teams
   1-21  also achieved high rankings throughout the 1992-1993 school year in
   1-22  national tournaments at the Bronx School of Science of New York,
   1-23  The Saint Mark's School of Texas tournament, and a tournament at
   1-24  Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts, where Molly
    2-1  Stephens was named best speaker; and
    2-2        WHEREAS, United in purpose and ambition, the Barbers Hill
    2-3  teams prepared extensively for the rigors of these difficult
    2-4  competitions and, through their efforts, have achieved remarkable
    2-5  results; all those who contributed to these outstanding
    2-6  performances this year are truly worthy of special legislative
    2-7  recognition; now, therefore, be it
    2-8        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas
    2-9  Legislature hereby commend the members of the Barbers Hill High
   2-10  School debate teams for their exemplary achievements during the
   2-11  1992-1993 school year; and, be it further
   2-12        RESOLVED, That official copies of this resolution be prepared
   2-13  for the members of the teams and for prominent display at Barbers
   2-14  Hill High School as an expression of high regard by the Texas House
   2-15  of Representatives.
