                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, Mr. Cesar Estrada Chavez, famed civil rights
    1-2  advocate, fought for human rights and fair labor throughout the
    1-3  majority of his life with uncommon valor known only to immortalized
    1-4  heroes; and
    1-5        WHEREAS, Mr. Chavez was born on March 31, 1927, in North Gale
    1-6  Valley, Arizona, and demonstrated uncompromising dedication to,
    1-7  unyielding persistence toward, and heartfelt empathy for the "La
    1-8  Raza" movement; and
    1-9        WHEREAS, In a time when impoverished Mexican migrant workers
   1-10  were painfully exploited by greedy farmers, Cesar Chavez, feeling
   1-11  their anguish, led efforts to establish the National Farm Workers
   1-12  Association to protect men, women, and children from further
   1-13  brutality; and
   1-14        WHEREAS, In the past 30 years, in advocating labor fairness,
   1-15  Cesar Estrada Chavez sacrificed his personal health and safety by
   1-16  striking, fasting, and boycotting those persons and organizations
   1-17  oppressing migrant farm workers; and
   1-18        WHEREAS, In 1978, Cesar Estrada Chavez successfully
   1-19  challenged a California statute, thereby granting collective
   1-20  bargaining power to farm workers and providing them the opportunity
   1-21  to earn fair wages; and
   1-22        WHEREAS, One of America's greatest sociopolitical thinkers,
   1-23  Cesar Estrada Chavez died while sleeping on April 23, 1993, in San
   1-24  Luis, Arizona; now, therefore, be it
    2-1        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas
    2-2  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Cesar Estrada Chavez
    2-3  and join the millions of people who both gained a long-deserved
    2-4  political voice and lost an endeared human rights advocate in their
    2-5  thankful and mournful state.
