                                  R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, We gather together today to bury Leo Alvarado, not
1-2 to praise him, for on this day, April 23, 1993, he marks yet
1-3 another birthday as he travels ever forward on the path to the
    1-4 great beyond; and
1-5 WHEREAS, Though a rookie member of this chamber, Mr. Alvarado
1-6 has indeed made a name for himself since his election to the house,
1-7 and if only the correct picture would accompany that name, he would
    1-8 have it made; and
1-9 WHEREAS, For the record, we're talking about someone who in
1-10 San Antonio would be referred to as the good Leo, not the bad Leo,
1-11 and the big Leo, not the little Leo; in Austin, however, the debate
1-12 rages on with regard to his goodness, but not his bigness; and
1-13 WHEREAS, Since his birth in the Alamo City on April 23, 1939,
   1-14  no mission has proven impossible for this Bexar County barrister;
1-15 although normally known for his sweetness, pleasant demeanor, and
1-16 docile nature, his membership on the insurance, judicial affairs,
1-17 and redistricting committees will no doubt give him ample
1-18 opportunities to reveal a more cantankerous side in the closing
1-19 weeks of the legislative session; and
1-20 WHEREAS, Although he has more than a passing acquaintance
1-21 with father time, as is noted by his Grecian Formula dark brown
1-22 hair, Mr. Alvarado refuses to admit that "5-4" refers not to his
1-23 stature, but to his age; and
1-24 WHEREAS, Despite his many well-documented eccentricities,
2-1 Mr. Alvarado is still regarded as a real catch by his loving wife,
    2-2  Charlene, though a less patient woman would have thrown him back;
2-3 in addition, he also is adored by his "school" of children, Rosie,
2-4 Christina, Miguel, and Carlos, who it is presumed are too young to
    2-5 know any better; and
2-6 WHEREAS, On this joyous occasion, it gives the members of
2-7 this chamber great pleasure to award him the special recognition
2-8 that he so justly deserves; now, therefore, be it
2-9 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas
2-10 Legislature hereby congratulate the Honorable Leo Alvarado, Jr., on
2-11 the unavoidable occasion of his 54th birthday and extend to him
2-12 sincere best wishes for continued happiness and success in the few
2-13 years he has left; and, be it further
2-14 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-15 prepared for Mr. Alvarado as an expression of high regard and high
2-16 jinks by his colleagues in the Texas House of Representatives.
