                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives takes special
    1-2  pleasure in honoring Alma Doss of Rockdale for her outstanding
    1-3  efforts to encourage music appreciation in her community, state,
    1-4  and nation; and
    1-5        WHEREAS, Before embarking on her musical career, this
    1-6  exemplary Texan taught school for 29 years at Rockdale Elementary
    1-7  School, the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, and various small
    1-8  schools in rural Texas, retiring in the early 1970s; and
    1-9        WHEREAS, A member of the Matinee Musical Club since 1963,
   1-10  Mrs. Doss first became involved in music as a student of legendary
   1-11  Rockdale teacher Margie Sledge; she also has played organ at the
   1-12  Peace Lutheran Church for 69 years and currently contributes her
   1-13  time and expertise to the church's youth music program; and
   1-14        WHEREAS, In 1991 this distinguished musician was named
   1-15  president of the Texas Federation of Music Clubs after serving as
   1-16  president of her local club for several years; during her tenure,
   1-17  she has traveled extensively throughout the United States to
   1-18  promote music and encourage young musicians to continue in their
   1-19  field; and
   1-20        WHEREAS, An avid world traveler who put many of her plans on
   1-21  hold to serve as state federation president, Mrs. Doss has
   1-22  particularly enjoyed her visits to the international music capitals
   1-23  of Vienna and Salzburg, Austria, and looks forward to resuming a
   1-24  busy itinerary when she completes her term of office in June 1993;
    2-1  and
    2-2        WHEREAS, Her hometown of Rockdale has celebrated "Alma Doss
    2-3  Day" in honor of her service to the Texas Federation of Music Clubs
    2-4  and in recognition of her exceptional music career; this delightful
    2-5  woman has shared joy, strength, and inspiration with those around
    2-6  her through her music, and her numerous achievements are indeed
    2-7  worthy of special legislative recognition and praise; now,
    2-8  therefore, be it
    2-9        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas
   2-10  Legislature hereby commend Alma Doss for her outstanding
   2-11  contributions as a musician, teacher, and president of the Texas
   2-12  Federation of Music Clubs; and, be it further
   2-13        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
   2-14  prepared for Mrs. Doss as an expression of highest esteem by the
   2-15  Texas House of Representatives.
