                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, Many proud residents of the city of Hillsboro will
    1-2  travel to the State Capitol on April 27, 1993, to celebrate
    1-3  Hillsboro Day in Austin; and
    1-4        WHEREAS, With origins dating back to the year 1853, when Hill
    1-5  County was founded by a group of hardworking Texas pioneers,
    1-6  Hillsboro became the center of the second largest cotton producing
    1-7  county in the world near the turn of the century; and
    1-8        WHEREAS, Hillsboro remains a community bustling with energy,
    1-9  excitement, and economic growth that is thriving under the dynamic
   1-10  leadership of Mayor Henry Moore and city council members Ted
   1-11  Whitley, Johnie Wilson, Jim Riggins, Raymond Trompler, Jacqueline
   1-12  Fennell, and Harry Payne; and
   1-13        WHEREAS, This magnificent city contains countless buildings
   1-14  of architectural and historical significance to the state and the
   1-15  nation, including the  1893 Hill County Jail and the newly restored
   1-16  1881 MKT railroad depot, which have been placed on the National
   1-17  Register of Historic Places; and
   1-18        WHEREAS, This community takes great pride in its unique
   1-19  history and architectural heritage that have contributed to the
   1-20  city's recent renaissance; along with the National Trust for
   1-21  Historic Preservation, the citizens, businesses, and government of
   1-22  Hillsboro have united to create Texas' first Main Street Program, a
   1-23  project that has led to the renovation of the downtown commercial
   1-24  area and of a residential neighborhood containing more than 250
    2-1  exquisite homes of historical and architectural significance; and
    2-2        WHEREAS, Hillsboro also is the site of the Hill County
    2-3  Courthouse, named one of Texas' 10 Most Historic Properties of 1993
    2-4  by the Texas Historical Commission; designed by W. C. Dodson, this
    2-5  1890 Second-Empire style structure was destroyed in a tragic fire
    2-6  on January 1, 1993, but the community has rallied to rebuild the
    2-7  structure and has organized a benefit concert featuring Willie
    2-8  Nelson; and
    2-9        WHEREAS, Boasting numerous antique shops and document
   2-10  collections, this lovely city is the home of the Confederate
   2-11  Research Center and the Audie Murphy Gun Museum and Weaponry
   2-12  Library, both located at the Hill College campus; and
   2-13        WHEREAS, The people of Hillsboro are indeed deserving of the
   2-14  attention their city receives from both tourists and historians;
   2-15  this year they will gather to celebrate their town's heritage,
   2-16  spirit, and hopes for the future at such events as the Confederate
   2-17  History Symposium, Cotton Pickin' Fair, Bond's Alley Arts and
   2-18  Crafts Festival, and Hillsboro Christmas parade; and
   2-19        WHEREAS, Determined to preserve their city's historical and
   2-20  architectural heritage for future generations, the citizens of
   2-21  Hillsboro have played a key role in Texas' economic and cultural
   2-22  history, and their many exceptional contributions to the Lone Star
   2-23  State are indeed worthy of special legislative recognition and
   2-24  gratitude; now, therefore, be it
   2-25        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas
   2-26  Legislature hereby recognize April 27, 1993, as Hillsboro Day at
   2-27  the Capitol and join with the citizens of Hillsboro in paying
    3-1  tribute to one of Texas' finest cities; and, be it further
    3-2        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
    3-3  prepared for the city of Hillsboro as a commemoration of this grand
    3-4  occasion and as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of
    3-5  Representatives.
