H.R. No. 624 R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, Early immunizations for preventable diseases such as 1-2 measles, mumps, rubella, polio, diphtheria, and tetanus are 1-3 necessary to maintain our children's health and well-being; and 1-4 WHEREAS, Nearly 95 percent of America's four million school 1-5 children are fully immunized by the time they enter school, but 1-6 one-third of our preschoolers fail to get the proper immunizations, 1-7 and in the inner cities the immunization rate is as low as 40 to 50 1-8 percent; and 1-9 WHEREAS, The Children's Action Network and a coalition of 1-10 business, health, government, and community organizations, 1-11 including the Office of the Surgeon General and the Centers for 1-12 Disease Control and Prevention, have joined together to launch the 1-13 National Immunization Campaign; and 1-14 WHEREAS, The National Immunization Campaign is a nationwide 1-15 public awareness and grass roots organizing campaign to educate 1-16 American families about immunization and to help address the 1-17 nation's long-term immunization and overall child health needs; and 1-18 WHEREAS, During the week of April 24-30, 1993, the National 1-19 Immunization Campaign is undertaking an intensive effort to 1-20 vaccinate at-risk children for preventable childhood diseases by 1-21 expanding clinic hours, increasing the educational materials, and 1-22 providing access to local hotlines; and 1-23 WHEREAS, Dallas and Houston are two of 16 cities in the 1-24 country where a coalition of health and social service providers 2-1 and advocacy, business, civic, and religious organizations have 2-2 joined with the National Immunization Campaign to offer families 2-3 expanded access to immunization services; now, therefore, be it 2-4 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas 2-5 Legislature hereby designate the week of April 24-30, 1993, as 2-6 Preschool Immunization Week in Texas and call upon all the 2-7 residents of this great state to join in supporting the goals and 2-8 activities of the National Immunization Campaign to ensure that our 2-9 children are fully immunized. 2-10 children are fully immunized. 2-11 McDonald 2-12 H.R.
