No. 625 73R9665 LBD-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, With the natural beauty of the San Marcos River, a 1-2 historic downtown area, and a wealth of shopping possibilities 1-3 available to interested sightseers, the vibrant city of San Marcos 1-4 is in a prime position for the introduction of a bold new program 1-5 to showcase Texas-grown and Texas-manufactured products; and 1-6 WHEREAS, The program, "San Marcos, A Texas Natural!", 1-7 represents a combined effort to revitalize the city's historic 1-8 downtown area and to stimulate the local economy by promoting Texas 1-9 goods; contributing organizations that have played a vital role in 1-10 bringing this unique program to fruition include the Texas 1-11 Department of Agriculture, Hays County, the city of San Marcos, the 1-12 Main Street Project, the Downtown Association, the San Marcos 1-13 Chamber of Commerce, the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, the Greater 1-14 San Marcos Economic Development Council, the Convention and 1-15 Visitors Bureau, Southwest Texas State University, and local 1-16 realtors and financial institutions; and 1-17 WHEREAS, In addition to the contributions that this dynamic 1-18 new program will make to the local economy, the program also will 1-19 benefit Texas artisans and craftspersons by providing them with new 1-20 outlets for their work as the business sector of the community 1-21 unites to increase Texas-made items in its current inventory of 1-22 retail products; and 1-23 WHEREAS, The city plans to incorporate four targeted programs 1-24 of the Texas Department of Agriculture's "Make It Texas" concept in 2-1 its implementation of the "San Marcos, A Texas Natural!" project; 2-2 nurserymen and landscapers are marketing products as "Texas Grown", 2-3 garments made from Texas-grown fibers, such as cotton, mohair, and 2-4 wool, are carrying tags indicating their Texas origin, 2-5 participating restaurants will offer "Totally Texas Menus", and the 2-6 "Taste of Texas" logo is already being featured on items in many 2-7 grocery stores and gift shops; and 2-8 WHEREAS, Benefitting both the city of San Marcos and the 2-9 Texas economy as a whole through the creation of a new and distinct 2-10 market for Texas goods, the "San Marcos, A Texas Natural!" program 2-11 is truly worthy of special legislative recognition; now, therefore, 2-12 be it 2-13 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas 2-14 Legislature hereby commend the organizers of the "San Marcos, A 2-15 Texas Natural!" program for the vital contributions they are making 2-16 to the continued economic prosperity of this great state; and, be 2-17 it further 2-18 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-19 prepared for the city of San Marcos as an expression of high regard 2-20 by the Texas House of Representatives.
