                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, The death of former County Judge Julius Real
    1-2  Neunhoffer on April 20, 1992, at the age of 72, has brought a great
    1-3  loss to the Kerrville community and the State of Texas; and
    1-4        WHEREAS, Judge Neunhoffer was born on July 6, 1919, into a
    1-5  prominent Kerr County family whose members included county
    1-6  commissioners, county judges, and a Texas state senator, and during
    1-7  his life brought great honor to his country, state, community, and
    1-8  family; and
    1-9        WHEREAS, This hardworking young man received his law degree
   1-10  at the age of 21, graduating from The University of Texas at Austin
   1-11  in the spring of 1941 and gaining admission to the bar on December
   1-12  2, 1941, only five days before the attack on Pearl Harbor; and
   1-13        WHEREAS, Answering his country's call to arms during World
   1-14  War II, Mr. Neunhoffer was stationed in occupied Germany as a
   1-15  second lieutenant in the U.S. Army and later in life played a key
   1-16  role in such local veterans' organizations as American Legion Post
   1-17  Number 208 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post Number 1480; and
   1-18        WHEREAS, On his return to the United States, Mr. Neunhoffer
   1-19  was united in marriage with his lovely financee, the former Geneva
   1-20  Kothmann, at a ceremony in Kerrville on May 8, 1948; rather than
   1-21  enter the legal profession, he operated the family ranch with his
   1-22  wife and embarked on a long and distinguished career as a leader of
   1-23  the local Republican Party; and
   1-24        WHEREAS, Elected county judge in 1958, Mr. Neunhoffer was the
    2-1  first Republican ever elected in Kerr County and the first
    2-2  Republican county judge elected in Texas after Reconstruction; when
    2-3  he retired 24 years later, on January 1, 1983, this exemplary
    2-4  public servant was the senior Republican elected official in the
    2-5  State of Texas; and
    2-6        WHEREAS, Judge Neunhoffer made many invaluable contributions
    2-7  to his university, profession, and community as a member of The
    2-8  University of Texas at Austin Texas Exes Association, Kerr County
    2-9  Bar Association, Kerrville Rotary Club, and Hermann Sons Lodge; he
   2-10  also served as a board member of the Sid Peterson Memorial
   2-11  Hospital, trustee of the Hal and Charlie Peterson Foundation, and
   2-12  member of the Kerr County Tax Appraisal Board; and
   2-13        WHEREAS, Above all else, this extraordinary public servant
   2-14  was a devoted husband and father and remained an active member of
   2-15  the community of faith at the First Presbyterian Church; and
   2-16        WHEREAS, Those who were privileged to know Judge Neunhoffer
   2-17  will not soon forget the courage and commitment he brought to each
   2-18  facet of his life, both personal and professional; loved and
   2-19  respected by countless friends, he was a man of tremendous
   2-20  dedication and integrity who will long be remembered by the many
   2-21  people whose lives he touched during his years on this earth; now,
   2-22  therefore, be it
   2-23        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas
   2-24  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of former Kerr County
   2-25  Judge Julius Real Neunhoffer and extend profound sympathy to the
   2-26  members of his family:  to his wife, Geneva Neunhoffer; to his
   2-27  sons, Julius R. Neunhoffer, Jr., and Marvin Oscar Neunhoffer; to
    3-1  his daughters-in-law, Camilla Jane Neunhoffer and Janet Elaine
    3-2  Neunhoffer; to his brother and sister-in-law, Oscar and Anna
    3-3  Neunhoffer; to his aunt, Hilda N. Roessing; and to his many other
    3-4  friends, relatives, and colleagues throughout the State of Texas;
    3-5  and, be it further
    3-6        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
    3-7  prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas
    3-8  House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of
    3-9  Judge Julius Real Neunhoffer.
