No. 638 73R9692 KMP-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is proud to honor 1-2 Midwestern State University student Johnny Carter on his 1-3 outstanding record of academic and extracurricular achievement; and 1-4 WHEREAS, A major in history and political science, this 1-5 dedicated and hardworking young man has achieved a 3.982 grade 1-6 point average and been named to the Dean's List many times, and his 1-7 success has earned admission to The University of Texas School of 1-8 Law; and 1-9 WHEREAS, Mr. Carter has received numerous scholarships in 1-10 recognition of his exemplary academic achievements, including the 1-11 PPG National Merit Scholarship, President's Leadership Scholarship, 1-12 and History Department Merit Scholarship; a nominee for the USA 1-13 Today All-Academic Team, he has been designated a Clark Scholar and 1-14 Alpha Chi Scholar, designated the Outstanding Junior Man of 1992 at 1-15 his university, and listed in the 1992-1993 edition of Who's Who 1-16 Among Students in American Universities and Colleges; and 1-17 WHEREAS, Respected by his peers and teachers alike, 1-18 Mr. Carter has earned membership in such prestigious local and 1-19 national organizations as the Mortarboard Honor Society, Alpha Chi 1-20 Honor Society, and Pi Sigma Alpha Honor Society; an exceptional 1-21 scholar in his field, he currently serves as vice-president of the 1-22 Phi Alpha Theta History Honor Society; and 1-23 WHEREAS, This prominent student leader is active in campus 1-24 government and political organizations at Midwestern State 2-1 University; in addition to having worked on local, state, and 2-2 national campaigns, he currently serves as a voter registration 2-3 deputy and is president of both the student government and 2-4 University Democrats; and 2-5 WHEREAS, Mr. Carter is involved with innumerable other campus 2-6 committees, clubs, and associations, but still finds time to 2-7 participate in local cultural and church-related activities; a past 2-8 member of the Wichita Falls Community Orchestra, he traveled to 2-9 South Texas as part of a Wesley Foundation mission trip and is a 2-10 member of the Life and Light Handbell Choir; and 2-11 WHEREAS, The talent, hard work, and commitment displayed by 2-12 this fine young scholar is indicative of the high standards of 2-13 achievement to which all Texans can aspire, and his numerous 2-14 achievements are indeed worthy of special legislative recognition 2-15 and praise; now, therefore, be it 2-16 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas 2-17 Legislature hereby commend Johnny Carter for his exceptional 2-18 academic and extracurricular accomplishments and extend to him 2-19 warmest best wishes for many more years of continued happiness and 2-20 success; and, be it further 2-21 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-22 prepared for Mr. Carter as an expression of high esteem by the 2-23 Texas House of Representatives.
