H.R. No. 641 R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, In 1995, Texans will proudly commemorate the 150th 1-2 anniversary of Texas' admission to the Union with appropriate local 1-3 and statewide celebrations and observances, foremost among which 1-4 will be an event officially designated as the Texas, 1-5 U.S.A.--Statehood Wagon Train; and 1-6 WHEREAS, Modeled on the hugely successful Texas 1-7 Sesquicentennial Wagon Train that was the centerpiece of the 1-8 statewide commemoration of the 150th anniversary of Texas 1-9 Independence, the 1995 wagon train and trail ride will be the 1-10 biggest single statewide event and will provide the focal point for 1-11 many community celebrations of Texas statehood in towns and cities 1-12 along the wagon train's route; and 1-13 WHEREAS, Hoping to stir the imagination and capture the fancy 1-14 of the entire world in the same way that the Texas Sesquicentennial 1-15 Wagon Train did in 1986, organizers of this 1995 wagon train will 1-16 have put in approximately 30 months of arduous and painstaking 1-17 preparations, meticulously planning, organizing, coordinating, and 1-18 funding the event, before the train even departs to ensure an 1-19 outstanding production worthy of such a momentous occasion; and 1-20 WHEREAS, Bringing together once again many of the same 1-21 individuals who were instrumental in making the 1986 event an 1-22 astounding success and an object of worldwide media attention, the 1-23 Texas, U.S.A.--Statehood Wagon Train organizers hope to duplicate 1-24 their earlier achievement and rekindle national and international 2-1 fascination with Texas and all things Texan with a quintessential 2-2 celebration of the incomparable Texas mystique; and 2-3 WHEREAS, The wagon train will depart from the famed North 2-4 Fort Worth Stockyards District on Labor Day 1995 and proceed over 2-5 the next four months along a route selected for its historic 2-6 significance, arriving at the State Capitol in Austin on December 2-7 29, 1995--150 years to the day after the Congress of the United 2-8 States accepted Texas as the 28th state in the Union; and 2-9 WHEREAS, From Austin, the wagon train will hit the trail 2-10 again and return to Fort Worth to conclude its historic passage 2-11 through the Lone Star State, having extended the opportunities not 2-12 only for communities along the way but for all Texans, and indeed 2-13 for all the world, to join in a Texas-size celebration befitting 2-14 our state's 150 years of history and tradition; and 2-15 WHEREAS, Worthy of the people whose history, heritage, and 2-16 indomitable spirit it will showcase before the world, the Texas, 2-17 U.S.A.--Statehood Wagon Train promises to match all things Texan in 2-18 its openness, character, and scope, and the organizers of this 2-19 magnificent event have truly earned the lasting respect, gratitude, 2-20 and appreciation of all the citizens of this great state; now, 2-21 therefore, be it 2-22 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas 2-23 Legislature hereby commend the organizers of the Texas, 2-24 U.S.A.--Statehood Wagon Train on their outstanding dedication of 2-25 time and energy and their superlative efforts in making the 2-26 sesquicentennial celebration of statehood a most successful and 2-27 memorable occasion; and, be it further 3-1 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 3-2 prepared for the event's organizers as an expression of high regard 3-3 and appreciation by the Texas House of Representatives. 3-4 H.R.
