R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, For more than two centuries, the United States of
1-2 America has weathered storms of social, economic, and political
1-3 change by maintaining the steadfast course of constitutional
1-4 democracy, and our ideals and principles of individual freedom,
1-5 liberty, and opportunity today serve as beacons for other nations
1-6 in search of prosperity and stability; and
1-7 WHEREAS, Throughout our nation's history, Americans have
1-8 worked hard, fought valiantly, and demonstrated unflinching bravery
1-9 in the continuing battle to secure and safeguard our most cherished
1-10 freedoms; we also have celebrated a proud heritage of cultural
1-11 diversity and common national goals; and
1-12 WHEREAS, Each May, Americans around the world unite in
1-13 observation of Loyalty Day, a special celebration of our country's
1-14 values, ideals, and traditions, through public town meetings,
1-15 parades, flag ceremonies, and school events; and
1-16 WHEREAS, Taking this opportunity to reaffirm their commitment
1-17 to their nation and to reflect on the meaning of patriotism, many
1-18 Texas citizens, schools, churches, businesses, and civic and social
1-19 organizations will fly the American flag and participate in Loyalty
1-20 Day activities on May 1, 1993; and
1-21 WHEREAS, This year the event indeed takes on special
1-22 significance, as people in other nations struggle to build systems
1-23 of democratic self-government and to safeguard individual freedoms
1-24 and rights; and
2-1 WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is proud to join
2-2 with the members of the District 28 Veterans of Foreign Wars and
2-3 Ladies Auxiliary in commemorating our country's glorious heritage
2-4 of constitutional government; now, therefore, be it
2-5 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas
2-6 Legislature hereby recognize May 1, 1993, as Loyalty Day in Texas
2-7 and urge its observance by all citizens of this state.
