No. 647 73R9946 SRD-F R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The family and many friends of Edgar Glover, Jr., a 1-2 prominent educator and esteemed Texan, were deeply saddened by his 1-3 recent passing on April 9, 1993, at the age of 45; and 1-4 WHEREAS, Born to Edgar and Nellie Glover in Kansas City, 1-5 Kansas, on June 6, 1947, he was educated in the public schools of 1-6 Kansas City and received a bachelor's degree from Emporia State 1-7 University in his hometown, a master's degree in education from Our 1-8 Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio, and a superintendent 1-9 certification from Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos; 1-10 and 1-11 WHEREAS, Mr. Glover first distinguished himself as an 1-12 educator during two years of teaching in Kansas City; after four 1-13 years in the United States Air Force, he accepted a position with 1-14 the San Antonio Independent School District, where he served in a 1-15 multiplicity of challenging roles, as a teacher, administrative 1-16 officer, and basketball and football coach and as the principal of 1-17 Riley and Martin Luther King junior high schools; and 1-18 WHEREAS, In 1983, Mr. Glover joined the Fort Bend Independent 1-19 School District as the principal of Willowridge High School, and in 1-20 March 1992 his duties were expanded to include administrative 1-21 responsibilities at Christa McAuliffe Middle School; in addition, 1-22 this respected educator served as an adjunct professor with the 1-23 department of educational administration at Texas Southern 1-24 University from 1990 to 1993 and was a noted author in his field; 2-1 and 2-2 WHEREAS, Mr. Glover was active in numerous professional and 2-3 civic organizations, including the Texas and national associations 2-4 of secondary school principals, the Mu Epsilon Nu national male 2-5 educators fraternity, the Association for Supervision and 2-6 Curriculum Development, the Kappa Alpha Psi national civic and 2-7 social fraternity, and the Frontiers International service 2-8 organization, to name but a few; and 2-9 WHEREAS, Having earned the esteem of his colleagues and 2-10 considerable praise throughout the community for his achievements 2-11 as an educator and community leader, he was named the Fort Bend 2-12 Community's Successful Black Man of the Year and the Southwest 2-13 Business and Professional Women's Club's Boss of the Year, received 2-14 the Service Award at Poe Middle School, and was honored by the 2-15 coaching staff of Martin Luther King Junior High School; and 2-16 WHEREAS, A man of strong religious convictions as well, 2-17 Mr. Glover professed his faith at the age of six and served as a 2-18 deacon and Sunday school teacher at Grace First Baptist Church in 2-19 San Antonio and at Zion Chapel in Fulshear, where he also taught a 2-20 weekly Bible class; and 2-21 WHEREAS, Throughout his lifetime, Ed Glover contributed 2-22 significantly to the enrichment of his students' lives and to the 2-23 betterment of his community; although his intelligence, compassion, 2-24 and dedication will be greatly missed, his memory will surely live 2-25 on in the hearts of all those who were privileged to know him; now, 2-26 therefore, be it 2-27 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas 3-1 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Edgar Glover, Jr., 3-2 and extend profound sympathy to the members of his family: to his 3-3 wife, Margaret; to his daughters, Nicole Margaret and Jennifer 3-4 Lynn; to his sisters, Veatrice Smith, Mosetta Johnson, and 3-5 Vertisteen Wilson; to his brother, Alvoyd; and to the other members 3-6 of his beloved family; and, be it further 3-7 RESOLVED, That official copies of this resolution be prepared 3-8 for the members of his family and that when the Texas House of 3-9 Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Edgar 3-10 Glover, Jr.
