H.R. No. 649 R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, Every year, in cities and towns across the state, 1-2 Texans proudly celebrate the Lone Star State's rich multicultural 1-3 heritage with colorful and fun-filled celebrations of the state's 1-4 many historically and culturally significant holidays; and 1-5 WHEREAS, Ranking high among these holiday celebrations are 1-6 the annual Cinco de Mayo festivities that, in communities large and 1-7 small, are often a high point in the yearly calendar of community 1-8 events; and 1-9 WHEREAS, The Jefferson Area Association of Dallas has joined 1-10 the growing number of neighborhood groups and business and civic 1-11 organizations that have made Cinco de Mayo a major focal point for 1-12 their organizational activities and made it possible for people to 1-13 come together in a spirit of fun, fellowship, and merrymaking; and 1-14 WHEREAS, Formed by a group of South Dallas businessmen and 1-15 community leaders to stimulate economic development in the area 1-16 around Jefferson Boulevard and the surrounding Oak Cliff 1-17 neighborhood, the Jefferson Area Association has recognized that, 1-18 in addition to building a sense of community, a large scale Cinco 1-19 de Mayo celebration also would provide a much-needed economic boon 1-20 to the neighborhood and spur its local revitalization efforts; and 1-21 WHEREAS, By focusing its efforts on an event that resonates 1-22 both with cultural pride and with Texans' natural love of festive 1-23 community celebrations, the Jefferson Area Association has ensured 1-24 the success of their economic development agenda and has provided a 2-1 public service to area residents that is indeed worthy of special 2-2 praise and recognition; now, therefore, be it 2-3 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas 2-4 Legislature hereby commend the Jefferson Area Association on its 2-5 efforts to improve both economic opportunity and the quality of 2-6 life for South Dallas area residents and extend best wishes for 2-7 success on its Cinco de Mayo celebration; and, be it further 2-8 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-9 prepared for the members of this noteworthy community service 2-10 organization as an expression of high esteem by the Texas House of 2-11 Representatives. 2-12 Representatives. 2-13 Alonzo 2-14 H.R.
