                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, The untimely passing of Edward Leo Peveto on
    1-2  September 21, 1992, at the age of 54, has deeply saddened the many
    1-3  friends and relatives of this esteemed gentleman; and
    1-4        WHEREAS, Born in Beaumont, Texas, on February 8, 1938, to Leo
    1-5  and Lorraine Peveto, he spent his early years in Orangefield, where
    1-6  he developed a keen interest in sports; and
    1-7        WHEREAS, An outstanding football player in high school, this
    1-8  dedicated individual pursued his interest in athletics at Lamar
    1-9  University, where he held a starting position for four years and
   1-10  earned All-Conference honors during his senior season; and
   1-11        WHEREAS, After graduation from Lamar in 1960, Mr. Peveto
   1-12  pursued a business career and joined DuPont to fulfill his family
   1-13  obligations; he was an invaluable asset to that company for nine
   1-14  years, but his love of sports brought him to Vidor, where he
   1-15  realized his lifelong ambition and began his storied coaching
   1-16  career in 1969; and
   1-17        WHEREAS, Having served as an assistant coach at Vidor High
   1-18  School and West Orange Stark High School, this outstanding teacher
   1-19  became the head coach and athletic director at Orangefield in 1975,
   1-20  establishing a tradition of excellence there that he would repeat
   1-21  several times during his subsequent coaching tenures at Martin High
   1-22  School, Longview High School, and Jones High School; and
   1-23        WHEREAS, Among the many well-deserved accolades earned by
   1-24  Mr. Peveto during his coaching career were five District Coach of
    2-1  the Year awards; he also was named the Laredo Morning News Coach of
    2-2  the Year in 1986 and the Houston Chronicle Coach of the Year in
    2-3  1990 and was inducted into the Greater Houston Area Football
    2-4  Coaches Hall of Honor; and
    2-5        WHEREAS, A devoted husband and father, he was supported in
    2-6  all his endeavors by his beloved wife, Janice, and by his seven
    2-7  children, Greg, Garey, Billy, Jeff, Bradley, Alice, and Ashley; and
    2-8        WHEREAS, Edward Leo Peveto was a man of rare compassion and
    2-9  integrity; although his guidance and tireless devotion will be
   2-10  missed by all who knew him, his remarkable spirit will live on in
   2-11  the hearts of the many whose lives he touched; now, therefore, be
   2-12  it
   2-13        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas
   2-14  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Edward Leo Peveto and
   2-15  extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family:  to his wife,
   2-16  Janice; to his children, Greg, Garey, Billy, Jeff, Bradley, Alice,
   2-17  and Ashley; and to the many other friends and relatives of this
   2-18  beloved gentleman; and, be it further
   2-19        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
   2-20  prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas
   2-21  House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of
   2-22  Edward Leo Peveto.
