No. 652 73R9081 BNL-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, Communities across the nation are looking for 1-2 innovative ways to resolve the many pressing issues facing our 1-3 country, and two of these issues that are of paramount concern are 1-4 improving education and meeting the growing demands placed on the 1-5 health care industry; and 1-6 WHEREAS, The High School for Health Professions in Dallas is 1-7 one of a select group of schools nationwide that are tackling these 1-8 problems together; by combining a rigorous academic curriculum with 1-9 health care training, the school is giving students a superior 1-10 education while preparing them for a wide range of careers in the 1-11 medical field; and 1-12 WHEREAS, By combining classroom instruction with on-site, 1-13 hands-on experience, the school exposes these bright and motivated 1-14 young people to the numerous opportunities offered by the rapidly 1-15 growing health care industry; through internships and laboratory 1-16 experience, students acquire a variety of medical skills and have a 1-17 unique opportunity to interact with health care professionals from 1-18 the fields of medicine, dentistry, and veterinary science, thus 1-19 allowing them to explore numerous career options before committing 1-20 to a specific course of study; and 1-21 WHEREAS, On graduation, many students are immediately 1-22 qualified to work as medical technicians or assistants, while 1-23 others choose to apply their high school course work toward medical 1-24 programs at area colleges and universities; and 2-1 WHEREAS, In addition to the exceptional health and science 2-2 curriculum, the school offers a full selection of traditional 2-3 academic classes, electives, and extracurricular activities, thus 2-4 ensuring that each student will receive a well-rounded education 2-5 and enjoy all aspects of the high school experience; and 2-6 WHEREAS, The members of this chamber are honored by the visit 2-7 of a delegation of these outstanding students, all of whom have 2-8 expressed an interest in learning about state government and the 2-9 legislative process; under the guidance of Mr. Patrick Norris, 2-10 these fine young Texans will tour the Capitol and observe democracy 2-11 in action; and 2-12 WHEREAS, By willingly undertaking this difficult and 2-13 demanding course of study, the students of the High School for 2-14 Health Professions have displayed a noble commitment to the healing 2-15 arts, and this commitment will surely lead them to great 2-16 achievements and successes in their chosen field; the people of 2-17 Texas, and the entire medical profession, will surely benefit from 2-18 the compassion, dedication, and motivation demonstrated by these 2-19 future health care professionals; now, therefore, be it 2-20 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas 2-21 Legislature hereby commend the students from the High School for 2-22 Health Professions for their diligent academic pursuits and 2-23 interest in the legislative process and extend to them a warm 2-24 welcome on their visit to the Capitol; and, be it further 2-25 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-26 prepared for the visiting students from the High School for Health 2-27 Professions as a memento of their visit to the Capitol and as an 3-1 expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
