H.R. No. 665 R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, Communities throughout the State of Texas proudly 1-2 celebrate the Lone Star State's rich multicultural heritage with 1-3 colorful and fun-filled celebrations of the state's many 1-4 historically and culturally significant holidays; and 1-5 WHEREAS, Ranking high among these holiday celebrations are 1-6 the annual Cinco de Mayo festivities that, in communities large and 1-7 small, are often a high point in the yearly calendar of community 1-8 events; and 1-9 WHEREAS, The Federacion de Organizaciones Mexicanas has 1-10 joined the growing number of neighborhood groups and business and 1-11 civic organizations that have made Cinco de Mayo a major focal 1-12 point for their community activities and made it possible for 1-13 people to come together in a spirit of fun, fellowship, and 1-14 cultural celebration; and 1-15 WHEREAS, The Federacion de Organizaciones Mexicanas sponsors 1-16 the oldest running commemoration of Cinco de Mayo in the city of 1-17 Dallas, held at the Pike Park Recreation Center since 1937 and to 1-18 be held this year on Wednesday and Thursday, May 5 and 6, 1993, as 1-19 part of this cultural celebration and recognition of Hispanic 1-20 heritage; now, therefore, be it 1-21 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas 1-22 Legislature hereby commend the Federacion de Organizaciones 1-23 Mexicanas on its efforts and strong commitment to heighten the 2-1 cultural awareness and understanding of the Mexican American 2-2 community of this state and nation; and, be it further 2-3 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-4 prepared for the members of this noteworthy organization as an 2-5 expression of high esteem by the Texas House of Representatives. 2-6 expression of high esteem by the Texas House of Representatives. 2-7 Alonzo 2-8 H.R.
