No. 667 73R9651 PAN-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, On May 11, 1993, the Texas House of Representatives 1-2 will join the many proud citizens of Williamson County in paying 1-3 tribute to one of our state's fastest growing counties; and 1-4 WHEREAS, Named for pioneer leader Robert M. Williamson, the 1-5 county was organized in 1848, with the community of Georgetown 1-6 selected as its county seat; and 1-7 WHEREAS, Drawing strength from the diversity of its natural 1-8 and human resources, the county comprises 1,136 square miles that 1-9 stretch from black fertile farm land in the eastern portion of the 1-10 county to rolling Hill Country ranch land in the west; and 1-11 WHEREAS, The rich soil of the region has earned Williamson 1-12 County a place among the top 10 agricultural counties in the state, 1-13 with cotton, grain sorghum, wheat, corn, oats, and the raising of 1-14 livestock contributing to the county's profitability; and 1-15 WHEREAS, Although agriculture is an integral part of the 1-16 county's economy, Williamson County is also home to a diversified 1-17 group of industries and businesses, including several advanced 1-18 technology companies, all of which provide employment for a sizable 1-19 segment of the county's 160,000 residents; and 1-20 WHEREAS, In addition, the county is the site of the state's 1-21 oldest institution of higher education, Southwestern University, 1-22 which is widely regarded as one of the nation's leading private 1-23 universities; and 1-24 WHEREAS, Blessed with a fine heritage and a bright and 2-1 promising future, Williamson County is indeed deserving of special 2-2 recognition for the exceptional contributions it has made to the 2-3 development of the Lone Star State over the course of its rich 2-4 history; now, therefore, be it 2-5 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas 2-6 Legislature hereby recognize May 11, 1993, as Williamson County Day 2-7 and commend its citizens for their efforts in building one of 2-8 Texas' finest counties; and, be it further 2-9 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-10 prepared for Williamson County as a commemoration of this grand 2-11 occasion and as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of 2-12 Representatives.
