No. 672 73R10386 JLZ-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is proud to honor 1-2 Jewel Montgomery for her many contributions to the betterment of 1-3 the community during the course of her long and satisfying 1-4 association with the Dallas Independent School District; and 1-5 WHEREAS, A 1965 graduate of Bishop College, Ms. Montgomery 1-6 embarked on her career as an educator shortly after receiving her 1-7 bachelor's degree, joining the Dallas Independent School District 1-8 as a mathematics teacher at Roger Q. Mill Elementary School; and 1-9 WHEREAS, While enjoying her tenure as a classroom instructor 1-10 there and later at George W. Carver Elementary School, she also 1-11 continued her own professional development by pursuing graduate 1-12 studies at East Texas State University, earning a master of science 1-13 degree in guidance and counseling in 1971; and 1-14 WHEREAS, In 1971 Ms. Montgomery joined the staff at Daniel 1-15 Webster Elementary School, where she taught mathematics and science 1-16 to pupils in grades three through five for four years; she later 1-17 became a facilitator for mathematics instruction in grades 1-18 kindergarten through six throughout the Dallas Independent School 1-19 District, ably serving the district in that capacity from 1975 to 1-20 1976; and 1-21 WHEREAS, She then began a longstanding and mutually rewarding 1-22 relationship with the students and staff at John F. Peeler 1-23 Elementary School that has endured from 1976 until the present; 1-24 since 1986 she has held the vitally important position of school 2-1 counselor at John F. Peeler Elementary, helping students to 2-2 overcome obstacles and achieve success in their personal lives as 2-3 well as in their academic endeavors; and 2-4 WHEREAS, Throughout her career as a teacher and as a 2-5 counselor, Ms. Montgomery has shown herself to be a concerned, 2-6 compassionate, and caring individual, always taking an abiding 2-7 personal interest in each of her countless students and offering 2-8 the guidance and support necessary for each student to attain 2-9 success in his or her endeavors; and 2-10 WHEREAS, Reaching out to these schoolchildren during their 2-11 formative years, she has taught them how to succeed inside and 2-12 outside the classroom and laid the foundations for their subsequent 2-13 achievements as productive and contributing members of society; her 2-14 accomplishments in this regard are indeed deserving of the highest 2-15 praise and recognition; now, therefore, be it 2-16 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas 2-17 Legislature hereby commend Jewel Montgomery on her selfless 2-18 dedication to serving several generations of the schoolchildren in 2-19 the Dallas community and recognize her exemplary contributions in 2-20 the field of education; and, be it further 2-21 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-22 prepared for Ms. Montgomery as an expression of high esteem by the 2-23 Texas House of Representatives.
