H.R. No. 683 R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, Leia Pardue of DeSoto has achieved outstanding 1-2 success in track and field, pushing her athletic skills to the 1-3 limit and setting a school and county age-group record in the mile 1-4 run with the superb time of 5 minutes, 51 seconds; and 1-5 WHEREAS, Middle distance running events are among the most 1-6 grueling in track and field, requiring exceptional endurance, 1-7 speed, and strategy to compete successfully at the highest levels; 1-8 and 1-9 WHEREAS, An eighth grader at DeSoto East Junior High School, 1-10 this dedicated young athlete has been unbeatable in her event, 1-11 charging through two seasons without tasting defeat; and 1-12 WHEREAS, Although her best time in the mile from the previous 1-13 season was six minutes, one second, she challenged herself to break 1-14 the six-minute-mile barrier, and her tireless efforts were rewarded 1-15 with a time which bettered that difficult goal by several seconds; 1-16 in doing so, Ms. Pardue not only set a new personal record but 1-17 became the first eighth grader in all of Dallas County to run the 1-18 distance in less than six minutes; and 1-19 WHEREAS, Leia Pardue's matchless dedication and drive as a 1-20 runner exemplify those attributes that define excellence for young 1-21 athletes, and it is indeed appropriate that she be given special 1-22 legislative recognition; now, therefore, be it 1-23 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas 1-24 Legislature hereby congratulate Leia Pardue on setting a school and 2-1 county record in the mile run and extend to her best wishes for 2-2 continued success in the future; and, be it further 2-3 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-4 prepared for Leia Pardue as an expression of high regard by the 2-5 Texas House of Representatives. 2-6 Texas House of Representatives. 2-7 Giddings 2-8 H.R.
