                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, The State of Texas has lost a distinguished
    1-2  statesman with the passing of our esteemed former colleague, the
    1-3  Honorable Sterling Williams, on August 6, 1992, at the age of 87;
    1-4  and
    1-5        WHEREAS, Born August 19, 1904, in Hillsboro, this longtime
    1-6  resident of West Texas was united in marriage with Gladys Mitchell
    1-7  on December 15, 1935, in Big Spring, and the couple was blessed
    1-8  with two fine children, Roger and Betty; and
    1-9        WHEREAS, Drawn to public service by an unshakable faith in
   1-10  the democratic process, this outstanding individual served as a
   1-11  county attorney and county judge before being elected state
   1-12  representative from District 118 in 1945; ably representing the
   1-13  interests of his West Texas constituents, he served with
   1-14  distinction for four terms; and
   1-15        WHEREAS, After his retirement from the house of
   1-16  representatives, he continued to dedicate his efforts to the
   1-17  betterment of his fellow Texans, providing informed and impartial
   1-18  decisions for 18 years as a district judge; and
   1-19        WHEREAS, In addition to public service, Mr. Williams had a
   1-20  keen love for ranching and devoted much of his life to that
   1-21  profession with which Texas is so strongly identified; and
   1-22        WHEREAS, An active civic leader as well, Mr. Williams
   1-23  generously gave of his time and energies as a member of the State
   1-24  Bar of Texas, the Scurry Masonic Lodge 706, the Shriners, and the
    2-1  Suez Temple; and
    2-2        WHEREAS, Sterling Williams was a caring and courageous
    2-3  citizen who will long be remembered for his exemplary service to
    2-4  the State of Texas, and although his warmth and wisdom will be
    2-5  missed by all who knew him, his spirit will live on in the many
    2-6  accomplishments he leaves behind; now, therefore, be it
    2-7        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas
    2-8  Legislature hereby honor the memory of former State Representative
    2-9  Sterling Williams and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his
   2-10  family:  to his wife, Gladys Williams; to his son and
   2-11  daughter-in-law, Roger and Comelle Williams; to his daughter and
   2-12  son-in-law, Betty and Warren Beaver; to his grandchildren; and to
   2-13  the many other friends and relatives of this esteemed gentleman;
   2-14  and, be it further
   2-15        RESOLVED, That official copies of this resolution be prepared
   2-16  for the members of his family and that when the Texas House of
   2-17  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Sterling
   2-18  Williams.
