                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, Michelle Hatmaker of Galveston was crowned
    1-2  Mrs. Texas America 1993 on February 21, 1993, and this lovely lady
    1-3  will have the great honor of representing the Lone Star State in
    1-4  the Mrs. America Pageant in October; and
    1-5        WHEREAS, Described by Pageantry Magazine as a role model for
    1-6  all pageant participants, Mrs. Hatmaker not only has fulfilled a
    1-7  long-held dream by winning the title of Mrs. Texas America, she has
    1-8  since justified her selection by exemplifying the virtues extolled
    1-9  in this event; unfazed by the glamour and excitement of her
   1-10  newfound celebrity, she remains above all else a devoted wife and
   1-11  mother; and
   1-12        WHEREAS, A successful businesswoman and community leader,
   1-13  this dynamic individual recently sold her business so she could
   1-14  spend more time with her husband, Dr. Roy Hatmaker, and their two
   1-15  sons, Daniel and Jonathan; and
   1-16        WHEREAS, Yet despite the rigorous demands of motherhood,
   1-17  Mrs. Hatmaker still finds time to assist her husband in his
   1-18  chiropractic practice; using her paralegal training, she negotiates
   1-19  a complex array of medical claim forms, workers' compensation
   1-20  regulations, and statutory requirements to ensure that his practice
   1-21  runs smoothly and efficiently; and
   1-22        WHEREAS, Her expertise has earned her the respect of many in
   1-23  the chiropractic field, and this professional regard was further
   1-24  enhanced by her service as president of District 11 of the Texas
    2-1  Chiropractic Association Auxiliary; a prominent civic leader,
    2-2  Mrs. Hatmaker also dedicates much of her time and talent to several
    2-3  other community organizations, including the Rotary Club, the
    2-4  Junior League, the West Isle Little League, and United Way; and
    2-5        WHEREAS, Her deep commitment to these and other nonprofit
    2-6  organizations has continued during her reign as Mrs. Texas America,
    2-7  for in this capacity she receives numerous requests for public
    2-8  appearances at civic, cultural, and charitable events, and she
    2-9  gives generously of her time and energy to promote these events and
   2-10  other worthy causes; and
   2-11        WHEREAS, Throughout her hectic schedule, this loving wife and
   2-12  mother treasures the time she spends with her family; she and her
   2-13  husband enjoy golf, fishing, and bowling, and Mrs. Hatmaker also is
   2-14  accomplished in the unusual art of etching glass; and
   2-15        WHEREAS, Exemplifying the noblest qualities and virtues of
   2-16  Texas womanhood, this elegant and vivacious lady captivated judges
   2-17  and audience members alike at the Mrs. Texas America Pageant in
   2-18  Houston, winning the pageant's coveted Photogenic Award in the
   2-19  process; and
   2-20        WHEREAS, Blessed with a warm smile and a natural beauty,
   2-21  Michelle Hatmaker brings great charm and poise to her role as
   2-22  Texas' delegate to the Mrs. America Pageant, and her shining
   2-23  performance in that event will undoubtedly bring further acclaim to
   2-24  the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it
   2-25        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas
   2-26  Legislature hereby honor Michelle Hatmaker, Mrs. Texas 1993, and
   2-27  extend to her warmest best wishes for many more years of continued
    3-1  success and happiness; and, be it further
    3-2        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
    3-3  prepared for Mrs. Hatmaker as an expression of high regard by the
    3-4  Texas House of Representatives.
