                                  R E S O L U T I O N
    1-1        WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives takes special
    1-2  pleasure in congratulating The University of Texas Dental Branch on
    1-3  its 50th anniversary with The University of Texas System; and
    1-4        WHEREAS, Established in 1905 as the Texas Dental College, The
    1-5  University of Texas Dental Branch is the oldest dental school in
    1-6  the state and was one of Houston's first institutions of higher
    1-7  education; and
    1-8        WHEREAS, Since its incorporation into The University of Texas
    1-9  System in 1943, The University of Texas Dental Branch has graduated
   1-10  more than 4,800 dentists and more than 2,200 dental hygienists,
   1-11  assistants, and specialists; this fine institution has served as
   1-12  the training ground for many of the state's best dental
   1-13  professionals, and its alumni practice dentistry in 180 counties
   1-14  statewide; and
   1-15        WHEREAS, The University of Texas Dental Branch has made
   1-16  significant contributions toward improving the quality of life of
   1-17  Texans everywhere; adding an estimated $68 million a year to the
   1-18  Texas economy, it offers an exceptional education to the health
   1-19  care providers of the future; and
   1-20        WHEREAS, A vital component of The University of Texas Health
   1-21  Science Center in Houston since 1972, The University of Texas
   1-22  Dental Branch is an institution dedicated to serving the local
   1-23  community as well as to improving dental education, research, and
   1-24  patient care for Texans throughout the state, and the many
    2-1  outstanding contributions of its officers, staff, and students are
    2-2  indeed worthy of special legislative recognition; now, therefore,
    2-3  be it
    2-4        RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas
    2-5  Legislature hereby congratulate The University of Texas Dental
    2-6  Branch on its 50th anniversary with The University of Texas System;
    2-7  and, be it further
    2-8        RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
    2-9  prepared for the officers, faculty, and students of The University
   2-10  of Texas Dental Branch as an expression of high esteem by the Texas
   2-11  House of Representatives.
