H.R. No. 692 R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The St. Luke Community Church has served the 1-2 residents of southeast Dallas for 60 years and is celebrating this 1-3 milestone in its rich history with the consecration of a new 1-4 addition to its house of worship this year; and 1-5 WHEREAS, Founded in April 1933, the St. Luke Community Church 1-6 has proven to be a vibrant addition to the social and spiritual 1-7 lives of generations of members, as well as an integral part of the 1-8 African-American community of southeast Dallas; and 1-9 WHEREAS, The members of this congregation have united with 1-10 the common purpose of spiritual renewal, and the church's new 1-11 addition is a reflection of the dedication of its pastor, the 1-12 Reverend Zan W. Holmes, Jr., assistant pastors Chauncey S. Nealy 1-13 and Vonciel Jones Hill, building committee chairman James Belt, and 1-14 building committee vice-chairman Governor Jackson; and 1-15 WHEREAS, This beautiful new addition, to be consecrated on 1-16 June 6, 1993, in the presence of Bishop Bruce P. Blake, will serve 1-17 more than 3,000 members and will be the center of a variety of 1-18 mission outreach projects and community service programs; St. Luke 1-19 Community Church has established more than 70 ministries since its 1-20 inception, and in 1991 became the first African-American church in 1-21 the nation to participate in the "I Have a Dream" program, 1-22 sponsoring and supporting inner-city schoolchildren as they advance 1-23 from fourth grade up through college; and 1-24 WHEREAS, St. Luke Community Church stands today as a tribute 2-1 to the hard work and dedication of its members, past and present, 2-2 who have selflessly devoted their time, energy, and resources to 2-3 ensure its continued existence as a house of God; now, therefore, 2-4 be it 2-5 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd 2-6 Texas Legislature hereby congratulate the St. Luke Community Church 2-7 on the occasion of the dedication of its new building for worship 2-8 and congregation; and, be it further 2-9 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-10 prepared for the Reverend Zan W.
