No. 694 73R10371 LBD-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The State of Texas actively has sought to improve 1-2 international relations and is committed to exploring new and 1-3 diverse opportunities for economic and cultural exchange with other 1-4 nations; and 1-5 WHEREAS, The people of Abia, Nigeria, have distinguished 1-6 themselves by hard work and great ingenuity, and they share with 1-7 the people of Texas a lively interest in economic growth and the 1-8 creative pursuit of expanding trade; and 1-9 WHEREAS, A sister state relationship between Texas and this 1-10 Nigerian state will help promote a continuing exchange between the 1-11 two states and will enhance mutual understanding and international 1-12 goodwill; the result will be a climate favorable to increased trade 1-13 and the sharing of mutually beneficial programs of enduring social, 1-14 cultural, and educational value; now, therefore, be it 1-15 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas 1-16 Legislature, on behalf of all Texans, hereby affirm the desire to 1-17 invite Abia, Nigeria, to join with Texas in a sister state 1-18 relationship and to conduct economic, cultural, and educational 1-19 programs of mutual benefit that will bring our citizens closer 1-20 together and strengthen international understanding and goodwill; 1-21 and, be it further 1-22 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 1-23 prepared and forwarded to Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, governor of Abia 1-24 State, as an expression of the desire of the Texas House of 2-1 Representatives.
