H.R. No. 706 R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The dedicated men and women who work in the field of 1-2 emergency medical services provide citizens with a vital public 1-3 service, for access to quality emergency care dramatically improves 1-4 the survival and recovery rate of those who suffer a sudden illness 1-5 or injury; and 1-6 WHEREAS, Thanks to efforts begun 25 years ago to establish 1-7 emergency care as a medical specialty, more than 500,000 emergency 1-8 medical technicians and paramedics, 70,000 nurses, and 23,000 1-9 physicians now provide lifesaving emergency care each day to 1-10 individuals across the nation; and 1-11 WHEREAS, With the added help of educators, administrators, 1-12 and others, these emergency medical services teams are ready to 1-13 intervene in life-threatening situations at a moment's notice; they 1-14 work around the clock, 365 days a year, and more than two-thirds of 1-15 these health care providers are volunteers who dedicate countless 1-16 hours to this noble effort; and 1-17 WHEREAS, The members of emergency medical services teams 1-18 participate in thousands of hours of specialized training and 1-19 continuing education to enhance their medical skills, and the 1-20 residents of the Golden Triangle area benefit daily from the 1-21 knowledge and skills of these highly trained individuals; and 1-22 WHEREAS, The observation of Emergency Medical Services Week 1-23 allows these outstanding health care professionals to further serve 1-24 the people of Southeast Texas by educating the public about injury 2-1 prevention and proper responses to medical emergencies; and 2-2 WHEREAS, Few people consider the importance of quality 2-3 emergency medical care until a crisis occurs, but when a natural 2-4 disaster or catastrophe strikes a community, citizens depend on the 2-5 preparation and quick response of emergency personnel; across Texas 2-6 and the nation, thousands of selfless men and women stand prepared 2-7 to answer that call, and those individuals are indeed deserving of 2-8 the highest praise, thanks, and recognition; now, therefore, be it 2-9 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas 2-10 Legislature hereby designate May 23-29, 1993, as Emergency Medical 2-11 Services Week in Southeast Texas and encourage the citizens of that 2-12 region to observe this week with the appropriate programs, 2-13 ceremonies, and activities. 2-14 ceremonies, and activities. 2-15 Stiles 2-16 H.R.
