H.R. No. 713 R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, In cities and towns throughout the country, Rotary 1-2 Clubs are respected and vital civic organizations whose members 1-3 contribute greatly to the well-being of the communities they serve; 1-4 and 1-5 WHEREAS, In addition to serving their communities by their 1-6 sponsorship of and participation in local programs and activities 1-7 designed to improve the quality of life for area residents, Rotary 1-8 Club members also extend their influence and promote fellowship and 1-9 goodwill by joining other Rotarians in a pooling of talent, 1-10 resources, and energy at the district level; and 1-11 WHEREAS, The leadership of the organization at this level is 1-12 entrusted each year to an individual who not only has exhibited 1-13 leadership ability but has exemplified the highest ideals of 1-14 service to the community and loyalty to the Rotary organization's 1-15 goals and purposes; and 1-16 WHEREAS, Newly elected governor of Rotary District 5870 1-17 Dr. Clift Price perfectly embodies these and many other admirable 1-18 qualities and has proven himself worthy of the honor vested in the 1-19 office he now assumes; and 1-20 WHEREAS, A former medical officer who served in the United 1-21 States Navy during the Korean conflict, Dr. Price enjoyed a long 1-22 and rewarding career as a pediatrician practicing with the 1-23 Children's Medical Center in Austin from 1953 to 1977 and then 1-24 served the people of Texas with great skill and dedication during a 2-1 distinguished tenure as associate commissioner of the Texas 2-2 Department of Health, retiring from that post in 1990; and 2-3 WHEREAS, On taking his oath of office as governor of Rotary 2-4 District 5870, Dr. Price will assume the reign of leadership from 2-5 an equally esteemed predecessor, outgoing governor Dr. James 2-6 L. Stoner; the former executive director of the Foundation for 2-7 Christian Living, this esteemed individual currently serves as the 2-8 senior minister of the historic Central Christian Church in Austin 2-9 and is a noted public speaker who has been invited to address 2-10 audiences at more than 900 churches and hundreds of college 2-11 campuses; and 2-12 WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is proud to 2-13 recognize these two worthy individuals as well as the organization 2-14 to which they have given their wholehearted support throughout the 2-15 years; now, therefore, be it 2-16 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas 2-17 Legislature hereby honor newly elected Rotary District 5870 2-18 governor Dr. Clift Price and his illustrious predecessor Dr. James 2-19 L. Stoner for their outstanding records of service to that 2-20 organization, to their respective communities, and to all of the 2-21 people of this state; and, be it further 2-22 RESOLVED, That Rotary District 5870 be hereby granted 2-23 permission to use the house chamber, provided the house is not in 2-24 session and subject to house rules and policies of the Committee on 2-25 House Administration, from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday, June 25, 2-26 1993, for the purpose of conducting installation ceremonies for its 2-27 newly elected officers. 3-1 newly elected officers. 3-2 Delisi 3-3 H.R.
